So its better to buy it on June 1 provided the deal is still active.
The fact of the matter is that Costco is actively hostile to those that sign up for Costco memberships from third party membership offers like Groupon. I am stating this based upon my own personal experience and the knowledge of others' experience to those who might sign up for this offer thinking that everything will be "automatic" and won't involve any possible hassle.

They once redeemed my code and added the time to my spouse's account instead of letting me get my own because I was a household card holder. I couldn't get a refund because of that and they wouldn't give me a shop card so I ended up disputing it with Discover and getting my money back and the membership never got cancelled. I tried again after the 18 months period, but because once again I was a person on the household card they deemed me not eligible for the shop card after they redeem it for a membership. I tried to dispute it with Capital One this time and they don't side with the customer so I basically just bought a full price regular membership and kept it.
I'm not going to cancel my membership or get on Costco's bad side. They will ban you for life if you refund too much or try and cancel and re up your membership. The more you do it the more at risk you are. The only way I was successful once was when I moved to another state and my ID had nothing relating to previous address. I also made sure to use a new email because they store those forever and will link you back to it. MAYBE if you don't add your spouse or you delete them as the second card holder before they get their own you might make it work. The 18 month rule is strict!
