I think this may have been a glitch and we will see if it ships, I got it out the door under 300 shipped and taxes.
The laws of energy states, energy can not be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed from one form to another.
So these, what you called glorified batteries utilize the energy provided by sunlight and stores it in a battery then converts it to a form of energy more easily usable when you need it to. Your idea of a generator uses gasoline as it's stored power source to create energy more easily useable when you need it to. Look at it like this. One you fill up with sunlight, the other you fill up with gas. Nothing in the universe can generate power from nothing. Don't let the name "Generator" fool you. Generating power from nothing breaks all sorts of laws of physics.
