It doesn't look like you can even buy a Series X directly from retailers anymore. There are some 3rd party listings but that's it. They are quietly phasing it out.

Edit: Lol at whoever downvoted me. The prices of Xbox consoles are pants on head stupid now. No one in their right mind would spend $400 for a Series S, $600 for a 1TB Series X or $730 for a 2TB Series X.

Actually Sony has raised the price of their console AND Playstation Plus in every region EXCEPT for the US as of now. I imagine that will change right after this sale promotion. Plus was already a no buy for me, except for a month around Christmas and New Year's, so raising it even more will just make it a complete no buy for me.

As it is I have a pre-built gaming PC I got an insane deal on that has specs that are fairly future proof, so I can just switch to that. It's just convincing people that I've played online with for years to do the same.

Yeah there absolutely is a reason to buy an Xbox. It just depends if those reasons fit your needs.

Personally, I haven't felt the need to have my PS5 most of this generation. Gamepass has Personally provided so much value for me.

The past few years the psn price raises in the US occurred after the big official Sony sales so if one wants in on a system thats 4-5 years old and expecting a successor soon, now would be the time. With the sudden change of pricing and sales we could see a delay with launch of a ps6 like Nintendo did with the switch 2

It's an almost five-year-old console with a tiny discount from the original price. Wild at how GPU inflation has distorted the rest of the market.

Xbox is not a great comp as they're no longer competing for share based on hardware alone. Instead, Xbox is putting all their eggs in software - gamepass - rather than subsidizing the hardware for the remaining cycle.

I would not recommend buying an Xbox at current pricing. I would also not recommend buying a PS5 at this price. My recommendations would be to stick with current hardware for the remainder of this cycle, put it into a PC/handheld PC, and/or game streaming (Nvidia, Xbox Cloud, etc.) if you have the bandwidth capacity.

Costco deal is available for $30 more but with an extra controller (probably $60 value). If you have Costco membership and think you will need an extra controller, I think it's worth it (for the slim disc bundle).

Rumors are the next Xbox will support Steam (yes, you read that correctly) which could be a huge game changer. It'll essentially turn the Xbox into a console that can also play PC/Steam games.

Will be very interesting to see how things shape up. Xbox seems to be moving towards a hybrid console/PC direction. Likely a gaming PC that's not using Windows but some new Xbox interface that has the Steam store integrated.

Thanks to economies of scale that means potentially getting a fairly mid-high tier PC gaming machine for cheaper than building your own even.

Is it just me or does the Astro Bot bundle feel way more tempting than CoD? Might be nostalgia talking but I'd take a creative platformer over another shooter any day 😂 anyone tried Astro Bot yet? Worth it at this price?
