It doesn't look like you can even buy a Series X directly from retailers anymore. There are some 3rd party listings but that's it. They are quietly phasing it out.

Edit: Lol at whoever downvoted me. The prices of Xbox consoles are pants on head stupid now. No one in their right mind would spend $400 for a Series S, $600 for a 1TB Series X or $730 for a 2TB Series X.
So let me get this straight Sony is offering $50 off while Microsoft raised their prices to absurd levels? It's almost like Microsoft wants the Xbox to fail.

Fair, but Sony hasn't raised their prices since the tariffs went into affect (at least not yet). Nintendo went from a $300 MSRP to a $450 MSRP for their new console.
Microsoft raised prices by:
  • Xbox Series S 512 - $379.99 (up from $299.99)
  • Xbox Series S 1TB - $429.99 (up from $349.99)
  • Xbox Series X Digital - $549.99 (up from $449.99)
  • Xbox Series X - $599.99 (up from $499.99)
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition $729.99 (up from $599.99)
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) - $64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Color) - $69.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller - Special Edition - $79.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller - Limited Edition - $89.99 (up from $79.99)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core) - $149.99 (up from $139.99)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full) - $199.99 (up from $179.99)
  • Xbox Stereo Headset -$64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Headset - $119.99 (up from $109.99)

MS is hurting the most because they're not making enough money from software licensing compared to Sony or Nintendo. Sony's and MS's console cycle business model is subsidized cost where they take a partial lost on the console made by selling in millions and making it back on software licenses from third parties. They're last place in the console adoption so they have to raise prices on their console or they'll be taking a higher lost. It's unfortunate but also ironic considering the tariffs are said to be promoting more of American companies but here we are with two Japanese companies taking the lead on business.

I'm trying to convince myself to get this deal but can't pull the trigger. I have an Xbox with game pass and can't find a compeling reason to get the ps5. I've had every PS up until this current gen. With that said, this seems to be the best deal around and probably for a while.

Yeah. I don't see the console dropping in price for a while. a deal getting better would probably mean two bundled digital games, not a price drop later this year or next year. With that said, you should not buy a console unless you are after the games that come out for it. So if you want to play Astrobot, God of War, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, etc. then it's a good purchase. A lot of those mentioned is what I got a PS5 for but they mostly released on PC so I could have just skipped Sony's console.

Thus far this has not hit the US market (PS5 price increases):

They've also raised the prices for Playstation Plus in every region except for the US...yet.

https://kotaku.com/sony-price-inc...1851776655

So Microsoft is not the only company hiking their prices. Even Stevie Wonder could see that Sony is likely to use the same excuses to raise prices here and probably soon. Hopefully they don't get the same idea as Nintendo and Microsoft and raise their first party games to $80 but again I'm sure it's already in the works.

Could someone please tell me if I buy PS5, will my saves of PS4 games like Witcher 3 be able to carry over to PS5? I believe the Witcher 3 I bought was for ps4 and PS5, it's the expanded edition with 2 DLCs. I am slowly dying waiting for game to load, I am ready to buy PS5 for this and for other next Gen games.

Base PS5 will likely cap at 30fps and only Pro will get 60fps. Sony will make sure Rockstar obeys so they can upsell you the $700 box
Wait, this slim is 30fps?

Yeah. didn't say Sony was not going to raise prices. But it's also worth considering that the US market is the most important market for Sony, MS And Nintendo. So Sony has done this before where the price of materials was higher than usual because of COVID. To counter that, they had to raise prices for the console in most regions. They try to avoid raising prices in US because the consumers in US are more sensitive but also the most important. If they can get away with raising prices, they'll do it in other regions. Countering extra costs by raising the sale price works by diluting that raise price in a lot of regions, but not necessarily in every single region/market. If there were 10 markets and the price of making the console was 10% higher on a $10, they'd rather sell to the 9 markets for $1.1 instead of $1 more for all ten markets. The US market is just too highly competitive to lose any kind of edge. Sony will try hard not to raise the price in USA, but they will likely wait it out until the Nintendo Switch 2 slows down in hype if they choose to raise the price of the console. Sony can't afford to cause any kind of negativity on their Playstation right now. Nintendo sort of already raised the price of the Switch 2 in that they priced it $450 (was likely going to be $429 or $399 before tariffs were a factor). It's not a great time to be a console gamer right now because of software prices going up and the carts are looking to end up being game keys (sort of a half ass way to being digital or physical).

I believe Witcher 3 is cross platform save. So your saves should also transfer over to PC. you should google and check to see but I don't see why playstation can't move a cloud save from PS4 to PS5.

Sony doing a sale with all retailers by giving a free game to bundle with the consoles. This is to get people to spend their $$$ before the Switch 2 comes out next week. Honestly, I think Sony can do better than just bundling a free game. Maybe put the price $30 cheaper than usual or bundle a few months of PSN+ for free.
Sony has been doing this Days of Play sale every May/June since 2017, it has nothing to do with the Switch 2 launch. Aside from that, it IS cheaper. Normal price for the disc version is $500.

That's why I went out of my way to find a gaming PC a few years ago. The specs on it are good enough to run most modern games. Though I mostly wanted it for stuff that wouldn't stand a chance of coming out on consoles (i.e. Hatred).

So I'm definitely future proofed for right now. The only trick is getting the friends I've made on consoles to switch.

This or a Switch 2? I can't decide. PS5 has more games that I know I'll like. Switch 2 is a wait and hope the games I like come to it. I love Mario Kart though...it's my 2nd favorite series. But Battlefield/Battlefront is my favorite series. I love having my own screen because I don't always have access to a TV. But, I can save up and get pave and use it for a screen. Decisions. Decisions.Isn't ps online some ludicrous price like $80-$90 a year now? I haven't had a subscription in years. It was like $50 last time I had it.
Honestly, if you have a decent PC, going for the Switch 2 is the smarter option. Most PS5 games are readily available on the PC. The Switch 2 will have games/experiences you can't get anywhere else. I'm not a nintendo fanboy, I'm just looking at the problem from the perspective of a gamer who wants to play ALL the exclusive content.

FYI today a certain cash back site is offering 15.15% back on a purchase at Playstation Direct. Makes it better than all the other deals.

Absolutely no reason to buy an Xbox with Microsoft moving towards being a game publisher. Xbox is becoming an app. Everyday someone is building their first gaming PC putting distance between console gaming. I only have a console so I can play more couch coop with my kids but even my kids are playing more of their PCs. I think Microsoft knows this. I have not seen a Series X for months at a big box retailer. Reminds me of the phase out of the One X in summer of 2020.

Xbox turning into a publisher is so, so dumb. What IPs do they even have that would succeed, they kill everything they touch.

They put all their eggs in the gamepass basket, but it's not sustainable.

Nothing better than being reminded by a salesman that they are indeed, a salesman. In your case, you're doing it for free, Nintendo doesn't even know you exist
