No, these will eventually start drifting. My version 2 joysticks started drifting and Im a very casual gamer. I was furious, looked up how to fix the joysticks and replaced them with hall effect joysticks. Everything is back to normal.

Replacing the joysticks with hall effect joysticks is a tedious process, it involves desoldering the older joysticks and soldering the new ones on. Desoldering took me the longest (Sony uses a high temp solder and you basically have to mix it with a low melt point solder) but I think I got the hang of it now. Will be doing the same with my sons ps4 joysticks.
I have 2 DualSense I got around PS5 launch and experiencing terrible stick drift. I'm not even a huge gamer, anyway — are these newer ones / colored ones any better? I'm assuming they might have gone through revisions at some point.
It's so strange to see the cost of the same technology actually increasing over time. It wasn't that long ago these were $40 on sale, I had no idea that I was actually investing then lol!

Something, something...uphill...both ways!

That stick drift is intentional, just look at how long the PS5 has been around and yet no recall or improvement has been announced regarding the stick drift. SONY is waiting for the multi-billion-dollar lawsuit to drop on their face before admitting fault and making changes, but until then they will just keep on raking in the $$.

YMMV: Check your Target Circle wallet. I had a 20% off purchase that applied. Ended up paying $129.19 + tax (5% birthday discount stacked) for the midnight Edge. Discount worked on my Disc Drive and PS5 games that I thought would've also been excluded.

It's probably not intentional but a side effect of cutting cost so they pay less for the sticks. They probably know the sticks will drift after the warranty is over, so they consider drift after warranty to be acceptable for more profits.

I found a guy on eBay to replace mine with Hall Effect sticks for around $30.

If everything else on the controller is fine, I'd recommend the same.

These don't work on PC very well. You're better off getting an Xbox controller. They're better and work seamlessly on PC. And they're cheaper! Win win win!

I did this process as well but accidentally partially melted a small plastic ribbon holder and now the face buttons don't work. Joystick works great tho

I remember the days when these went on sale for $49.99 two Black Fridays ago
They were $35 from QVC during the Black Friday sales in Nov and came with a free silicone sleeve.

It's a nice controller but most people are probably better off looking for a hall effect controller unless you need the touchpad. I don't have a PS so not sure how many games require the Dual Sense touchpad.

Intentional? No way! How could you?!

Anyways, please buy our $200 controller that has easily swappable joysticks for the low low price of $20 each for when they eventually drift!

Even at the sale price I feel I am getting ripped off, but you dont have much of a choice on the ps5 so I picked up a black dualsense. Feels even worse because I was able to get 2 8bitdo ultimate 2s (I think, their naming schemes are ass) for $50 and they come with hall sticks.

I've had the same 2 controllers for like 4 years now and they both work great. I'm not a hardcore gamer but use them pretty regularly. I bought a 3rd one on sale, just to have a backup. I ended up trying to use it for PC but discovered that not all games, particularly older ones, play nice with the dualsense. Good controllers in my experience, as long as you're using them for PS5.

Yes there is a version 2. It's possible that they are less susceptible to drift
No, it's not possible. Sony continues to use regular joysticks instead of installing hall effect joysticks that have been PROVEN to fix the entire stick drift issue. Their only "solution" to date on any of their controllers is to make the joysticks "replaceable" with a "module" containing the same defective kind of joystick that is made of "unobtainium" and completely impossible to find in stock anywhere and of course priced ore expensive than just buying a whole new controller.

Picked up a dualsense midnight black and around all the face buttons (d-pad and 4 buttons) are what looks like an oily residue from the factory. It doesn't wash off, so I'm assuming it's from the injection molding?

Did an exchange and same thing. Is this common with these?

Try using those electronic heat resistant tapes next time to cover up parts you don't want to get damaged
