Return it?
Why should he return it? BestBuy induced him to buy based on an 'approved' price match. Now, he missed out on the chance to buy from Costco. I did the same thing, and I got the same email this morning from BestBuy. Now, I have to go through a chargeback on the card through Citi because BestBuy refused to play fair and honor their commitment.

What about the year four and beyond? I doubt you'll become any less clumsy. Probably only more so as you advance in age.
The answer is no, it does not.

I've never broken any of my devices in my child or adult life to be clear. It's conceited and foolish to think one is immune from accidents. As one advances in years, it seems this is unfortunately not universal wisdom.

edit: Year 4 and beyond, time to get a new device!
