I think these have the same fabric ear pad covers that are on the SteelSeries Arctis 3, and I've had mine for 3 years (in Texas summers the whole time, too), and they are still in good shape. Having fabric covers vs. (p)leather makes a world of difference.

I don't like headsets. The ear pads become wrinkled and bad over time even when left unused in drawers. That happened to my last Sony headphones and I had to throw the whole thing away. Plastic powder was falling off the pads. I know you can replace the ear pads but it was not worth it for me.

Funny, my ex wife had the same things to say about me.

So fabric ear pads never wear out? I had ear pads made of leather or some kind of white plastic material in drawers for 10+ years before I pulled them out and noticed what had become of them.
I have had 5 steelseries headsets,
V2
Arctis 7
Arctis 7+
Arctis Nova
Arctis Pro Wireless
Of these the only ones I liked or would ever buy again are thr V2s (but not anymore since I use wireless) and the Arctis 7.
The gg software sucks, even after learing all the small navigation. The microphones are actually pretty weak, and get worse over time. The mute buttons on half of them dont work.
I will not buy another Steelseries headset at this point.

Rant over, save your money.
You clearly work for a competing headset company. Please name a better wireless gaming headset in this price range. These puppies are, by far, the best wireless headset in this price range money can buy.

I cant, but I'd gladly pay more, so please drop a suggestion.
My current Arctis Pro Wireless has a terrible static noise, I have tried everything I found online, as well as worked with tech support.

Anything wears out, eventually, but fabric doesn't crack and disintegrate.
For the record, neither does high quality leather (even synthetic).
You shouldn't be surprised when cheap shit falls apart.
You also shouldn't pretend that you care about what happened to something you left unattended in a drawer for a decade.

JUNK and not worth the price.
You do you boo, enjoy.
Sounds like the problem is you.
I've owned six Steelseries headsets and the only one I advise people to stay away from it's this one, because the Xbox version has compatibility issues with PC (and I only know like two people who are pure Xbox gamers).
I have this headset. I have mixed feelings about it. I had a bit of connectivity issues SPECIFICALLY with COD. When it works though, the sound and comfort is impressive. Definitely worth a buy at this price point.

No way.. . The mic and software on the Logitech X Pro is light years ahead of this one.
