The PP9 battery will cost more than the clock.
Seriously have no idea why I don't have one of these after years of turning on my phone nightly to see the time. What have we become.
Part of the value of these is so that people can untether themselves from their cell phones. For some people, not having their cell phone in their room when it is bed time is the ideal even.

The downside to these is that you might forget to adjust the time during Daylight Saving Time. Don't have one because of this. Easy way to get fired from a job if you do forget.

I don't use the alarm on clocks like these, but I do have these types of small clocks around the house just to glance at the time as needed.
I use these clocks for the same purpose and have them near the tv. In my bedroom, I can quickly glance at it if I wake up in the middle of the night.

26 years of getting up for work at 2am and having to count on a crew of kids who do the same, here's a little advice. Get one.

I've had to suffer people who rely on their phones only to have them off, muted, no battery and no roommate to call as a backup. I've been burnt more times than I can count. And if your alarm clock has a radio, NEVER set it to wake up to a radio station. If you have bad overnight storms, radio stations are usually unmanned and can be off air for hours. Your alarm might go off, but you don't hear anything. Always use the buzzer.

But I'm not living in the past either. I have two more backup alarms on my phone. Relying on just one alarm is just asking for it.

Modern alarm clocks can adjust for DST using the signals from radio stations.

If you really need this, just grab one at a thrift store..every one has piles of old alarm clocks for less than this.

I've been using the same GE alarm clock radio for like 30 years now.

The alarm uses 9v battery which is around $2 to $3 each. I have one in my alarm clock and it lasts more than 5 years. The backup battery only serves to remember the time settings after electricity outage. It does not power on the clock.

I didn't know that. Surprising that even old outdated technology has advanced.

I'll get one to replace my current clock radio that I just primarily use now to glance at the time during the night. I have no use for any other feature as if I need an alarm to wake me up I use my phone for that. However, 15 years ago when I needed an alarm everyday to wake up for work, or carry the kids for school, I promised myself to ditch the alarm life and live a life where you need no alarms to get you going. What a pleasure it has been not jarred awake and waking up on your own body clock. Of course you have to figure out that lifestyle yourself, but it's worth it.

That was the case for mine from the early 2000's.
