A small rubber mallet is what I use for tent staking. Used them for years, they're safe and lightweight.

Edit: I have a small screw hook placed into the handle to pull up stakes. It works wonders!
Axcellent!

I think I might be ordering the orange one for tent stake duty. It's an idea that's been floating around in my head for years now, and this is as good of a price as any.

I already have the Fiskars, and I can't imagine the Estwing chopping better than it ... so I want to save its precious hollow fiberglass handle for that purpose. Also, the Estwing is about 10000% more "batonable" than any knife I'm paying for.

All jokes aside, this is a great camp and general purpose axe. I have this matched with the full length axe. Great combo.

I remember these from when I was a kid. I read The Hatchet and for a while I wanted one of these soooo bad. Back then I think they were only $25 or so and had a leather sheath.

I want to cut the exposed roots of trees which prevent any grass from growing near it.
Is this good solely for that purpose?

So I got this the other day, and the 26" version for a few bucks more seems like it would be a lot more useful since you could two hand it, or just have a lot more speed one handing. Thoughts? Yes I know it has a partially hollow handle unlike this one, but its the same until the handle extension and I did not see reports of it breaking or anything.
