Just buy it, it's awesome. Bluetooth sync is fast and seamless on my iPhone - just expand the dock and slide in the phone - it automatically turns on and pairs by the time my phone is set in the dock. Controls feel really nice. Great battery life. I hear its amazing with a Switch, if you got lucky enough to score one from Costco. I don't know how/why people pay $150 for these things from other companies. Gamesir killed it.
I use mine for Steam Link when I want to game on the couch. I have a pretty robust home network, so even platforming games don't suffer from latency.

I loved my original G8 so much, I bought a second one, just in case.
Insane price, I've tried basically all the controllers for my spare phone and the G8 is by far the best and does not feel like a toy. Great grips, great d-pad, great buttons. Highly recommend! Bought a second one as well. I also have a g cloud for steam link but I am reluctant to use it since the G8 feels so much better.

Do you prefer Steam Link over Parsec or Moonlight/Sunshine? I've always used those and never given SteamLink a shot. I use specifically Artemis/Apollo so it can use a virtual display that mimics the resolution of my TVs but never done it on phone.

I have a surface pro tablet from work that I don't use, halfway debating trying it out with this but doubt it'll fit lol
To be honest, I've only used Steam Link and never really gave Artemis/Apollo (or Sunshine/Moonlight) a shot. My gaming PC is hardwired and I use TP-Link Omada APs (one EAP670, two EAP655-Wall, all handled by the Omada controller through Proxmox), so latency has never been an issue inside or outside the house (Steam Link lets you access your PC outside your home network too, just needs to be powered on and online).

I have an HDMI dummy plug that does 4K/120hz, so when I want to use Steam Link, I just turn off my gaming PC monitors and it "draws" the display on the dummy plug. Lets me use the whole system headerless. I like Steam Link because launching the app on my devices will pull up my gaming PC in Big Picture Mode, which is designed around controllers. I also have the option to exit Big Picture Mode and just get my full desktop.

To top it all off, you can run Steam Link on any Windows machine too (linky [steamcommunity.com]). I have a Trigkey G5 mini-PC that I put a bare Windows 10 install on it and use it to access my gaming PC from pretty much anywhere.

You can mod the G8 to fit tablets up to 12" in width. Here is the reddit thread covering it [reddit.com] and you can check the YouTube link as well [youtube.com]. I did this with one of mine so that I could use my Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. It works great.

With Artemis and Apollo, you don't need a dummy plug. It can make a virtual display based on whatever the client requests as a resolution. I can go from my pixel phone to an iPad mini without fuss and I can stream non steam games. Can also run headless and won't use my monitor at my desk while streaming. This setup already has Big Picture mode and Desktop as default apps to launch. It's easy to set up and has more nitty gritty configurable options than steam link app. I can pull up and use the soft keyboard from my phone and it'll send that to my PC, I can send a lot of basic pre-baked windows commands to it like Open Task Manager, Shutdown, etc

The level of detail in this response is staggering. Thank you very, very much. That vid from the reddit post sold me on getting this and doing it myself. May your house be always filled with soft TP and tasty salsa.

This is the way ^ I used to use dummy plugs as well, but once I got this setup going I could luckily ditch them. I love that you can add custom apps/games/etc to the list. I use Playnite launcher for most things, but games/apps I know I use frequently I just add to the list manually. I love that you can easily find boxart for them as well.

It's both, if you connect via USB C, then it inputs directly to device. Otherwise (and probably normally) it's Bluetooth - I had same question because the title cha he's for me on the browse screen vs thread string where one says wired and one says Bluetooth

This and XBPlay is going to give my SteamDeck some competition! Super excited to have while Deck is getting RMA'd (I dropped it; hard to be mad anywhere other than myself..)

Mobile/couch gaming is really where it's at for me these days. So much easier and honestly works great when the wife and I are watching something on the TV I'm only halfway paying attention to. Literally the difference between having to find something else to do and occasionally piping up some comment on trash TV where I just have to confirm those people really are as dumb as the words coming out of their mouths XD

Anybody have a lead on one of these that can hold a normal sized phone in portrait mode, or can this be easily modified? Would really love to be able to play some DS games on my phone in a format that's similar to the OG handheld.

I signed into my account to tell you this is a great deal. You can fit any tablet in this controller

Pull the controller all the way out, just bend the controller mid section away from you. It will pop out and springs are strong, naturally it will want to bring the controller back together.

I picked one up a few weeks ago at this price from Walmart. Great controller, and High-quality feel. It is also nice that you can set the controller to act as an Xbox controller, Android, or a PlayStation controller by changing the modes.

This. This right here is the EXACT reason why I built out such a strong Wi-Fi network.

Because I wanted to play games on the couch while the wife watches TV and I would feel bad leaving her alone.

Granted, it would probably be a lot easier and cheaper to just buy a sofa and TV for the gaming room, but I needed the network upgrade anyways!

Does anyone know if it works with Brawl Stars on IOS?
I only have the GameSir G8 (USB-C version, not Bluetooth), but as far as I know, the G8+ has the same features — including a function called G-Touch.
This feature allows the gamepad to work with touch-only games. I've tested it with Skul and League of Legends: Wild Rift.
However, it didn't work very well with Wild Rift, since the game requires tapping to select targets (like enemies), which a gamepad can't directly replicate.
I haven't played Brawl Stars, so I'm not completely sure, but if it doesn't rely heavily on tap-to-select mechanics, it might work better.
