That article states Samsung basically only gave 3-4 years of support and just now recently (this year) upped their support to 7 years. This is most likely due to realizing they're losing customers who chose Apple because of their generous support.

The other poster is correct. It is now 5-7. It was a lot longer before but even the 6th gens are no longer receiving updates

If you're not upgrading before 7 years get out of the game. 7 years is being unreal generous. Buy a cheap Tablet and you're in that boat the day you buy it. The biggest scam with these iPads is the $150 upgrade cost for cellular and their hard drive prices.
