Unless it has a piano hinge, a gasket between the shells, and 3-point latches, it will never last. The Oyster design is the one that's proven and still can be found if you search high and low enough.

All these other bags are $20 ones with various add-ons and markups--nothing special.

Do you happen to have a link to one with such a hinge and gasket?

This luggage is beautiful. But it cracked at first use during an international flight. Thank goodness for Costco's generous return policy; I was able to return the item.

Unfortunately the carry on at Sams Club exceeds the 145 linear inches as required by airlines
The one in the link below is the best 100% polycarbonate 2 piece deal at the $95 price point and IMHO, it will likely sell out

The two that come up fairly often in searches is the Samsonite Essens line and the S'Cure. The names change every few years as they introduce new line names with the same features and pull the old line name. American Tourister and Delsey also make bags with these design features but I haven't seen any recent ones after I got my pair of AT Tribus during covid on a bogo free sale. These designs hold up phenomenally well. I was shocked to see original Oysters on ebay now as people have figured out that even these 40 year old 1980s cases are still good today if you just want raw protection and reliability.

For heaven's sake this is luggage and not a car.

You are free to keep buying the same $20 bags that are marked up to $100 that fall apart after a dozen trips. These are not the bags you're looking for.

Why? This is your thread about your deal. I simply stated that it's not really that great of a bag or deal if you're looking for something to last. My opinion. ymmv.

I didn't say the one in this thread is the best deal.

And, if you say it isn't a deal, you have yet to provide alternates.

I think you won't be able to find a better "live" (non expired) 2 piece hardside deal than the one in the link below.

There's no 'rule' of any sort like that. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I have an opinion that any bag that doesn't meet the criteria I posted above is nothing more than a $20 bag + some extras and won't last because it's not designed to last. If you don't want to believe that, that's fine. Be happy with what you want. These bags are NOT a deal if you want a bag that will last, period.

You can believe whatever what you want but it is BS unless you can actually provide links to what you think are the ones you want WITH the price. It is easy for you to make comments on other bags when you have NOTHING, ZERO, to actually provide in real comparison with web links!

We live in a REAL world, not in an imaginary world which you live in.

So between the two:

a) Costco Traveller's (the one in this thread)
https://slickdeals.net/f/18352759-costco-traveler-s-choice-granville-ii-2-piece-hardside-100-polycarbonate-spinner-luggage-set-ykk-main-zipper-hinomoto-wheels-129-99-free-shipping?

and

b) Sams Club Members Mark
https://slickdeals.net/f/18341248-sam-s-club-members-2-pc-member-s-mark-hardside-luggage-set-28-20-various-colors-140-free-s-h-for-plus-members?

The question I have is whether you have either / or or both memberships - COSTCO or Sam's Club. If you have Costco membership get the Costco one and if you have the Sams membership get the Sams one

As for the luggage - they should be comparable in quality.

So, it now boils down to other factors

CARRY ON

The Sam's Club Members Mark Mark is the same height of my other carry-ons but its depth is more. So, I guess that's where it stands out in maximizing space. It is well built not that one would ever need that protection in carry on. It is also not light which means if anyone weighs it for purposes of extra baggage fees, then it is a disadvantage.

The Costco deal's greatest disadvantage is the carry-on size. Smaller than what it could be.

CHECKED LUGGAGE

Sam's Club Members Mark Mark: What struck me most is the weight! It's relatively heavy and that's its biggest disadvantage. So, if you are worried about carrying the most without paying extra, pay attention to the weight. The web site Q & As say it is 12.4 lbs. It terms of "size" it is in a sweet spot; not large, not medium other, somewhere in between. So if you are thinking of maximizing volume, this is not it, but if you are thinking, "not bulky", this is it.

Traveler's Choice: It seems it is maximizing volume so naturally it will seem bulky. It is also less heavy at 11.2lbs, so it should work in your favor since you want maximum volume. You will be fine with the size on check in. The luggage specifications are 61.7" which is less than the 62" max, and airlines always have a little grace, so on that part you are fine. So go ahead and even use the 2" expansion. Should be zero issue. Your constraint will not be space but the weight of a packed luggage with clothes, etc.! The bag can likely hold far more that 50 lbs!
