There's no such thing as Atmos in a sound bar unless it comes with separate speakers. $79 is a nice deal for a soundbar, but let's not kid ourselves about what this really is.

I have this one. It sounds good but the subwoofer can be little too much. I have it set on -5 and it's still overbearing, especially on the movie preset. Fortunately it has a night mode which shuts off the sub.

Anyone have insight on how this might compare to the Vizio M21D-H8 that was $80 back in 2020 (a Slickdeal at the time)? It's what I'm currently using and the sound is impressive (to me), especially the bass. Will the TCL suck without the sub?

This has a sub, though?

According to my 2 min read on the Visio you mentioned, the TCL may not have as much bass.

Compared to the short BOSE soundbar for the same price (refurb) without a sub, I think the TCL sounds better.

Bought this for about $20 more a few weeks ago. For this price I'd say it's a no brainer. Just having the sub will enhance your viewing experience exponentially. It's also plays music very well (has default settings for media type). Haven't had any issues with disconnects so far. All in all happy with the purchase.

I guarantee you it's 100% if not more better than the Vizio that was on here for roughly the same price. I feel sorry for whoever bought that you might want to return it and get this.

"actual atmos" all fluff
all these sound bars that advertised atmos but its all in the front sound stage is fluff. marketing. You dont get atmos. You just get another 2 speakers that just makes you think things are louder. Atmos is supposed to be directional/height/position and only present in scenes that are designed to have it. So you feel like you are in the action. Regular consumers just get caught up in specs, pay more for something that wont even execute properly. All these type of "ATMOS" sound bars say the sound will BOUNCE off the ceiling and then which means will properly produce the sound that you are meant to be heard as if it was a real atmos setup where the speaker is physically in the top back right/left or front top right/left aimed towards you. come on bruhhhh

This is same with those 5.1 soundbars but its only 1 bar and no physical speakers behind/side of you lol.

Anything is better than the built in tv speakers of flat screens these days,, but i hate that companies are making people think they got something that actually can compete with real AVR and properly placed speakers.
Atleast this soundbar actually has 2 real additional speakers instead of the ones that claim Atmos and don't even have up firing speakers.

Just got this delivered today. First off I'll say I'm using it in a space way bigger than this honestly should be used in. I'm putting in in my garage for a sudo movie theater experience and it's 800sqft of open area with 17ft ceilings. So with that in mind it absolutely lives up to the $80 I paid heck I'd probably pay $150 and be fine with it. For a cheap sound bar for watching sports and the occasional movie with a crowd it will be plenty. I was actually planning on going full surround but I think this will hold me over for a while till I figure out if I actually want a full system in my garage. The subwoofer is actually surprising for it's size. I demoed it next to a 200w RMS 8in that I had and I would say it got 70% of the way which is shocking considering the sub it comes with is only 6in and the entire setup didn't even cost half what I paid for the other subwoofer. Haven't had a chance to try Atmos but the fake surround sound decent enough. All that to say for the price it's a no brainer. I've paid way more for way worse soundbars *cough* *LG* cough* Also for reference I have a Samsung q910d system and while it's not as good as that it's not bad either. If there was a version of this with rear speakers for say another $100 that would probably be the best sub $500 soundboard setup you could get.

Does it need to be a roku set up? I'm using a 2024 samsung TV and just want whatever is on the TV for the sound to come out of the soundbar. If possible to control the volume with the TV remote or Fire TV remote, that'd be even better. TIA

Does not need to be Roku. If you want to control with a different remote, just make sure your TV has an (e)ARC HDMI port and has HDMI CEC and you'll be good.

I can control mine with my Onn streaming remote.

I picked up a cheap 2.1 version without the up-firing speakers and thought the thing was garbage, sounded terrible. I think they were clearing them out around $40 quite awhile back.I know $80 isn't much but my .02 I'd put the $80 towards something else.Applications that can use a couple small speakers I've found using a pair of Edifiers (1280 or similar) hooked up to the TV headphone output sounds a ton better to me than cheap soundbars.

My impressions using the soundbar in my masters br; low ceiling; carpet; sitting ~ 6ft away on the bed.

Does it have ATMOS? Yes - sounds seem to come from everywhere; it's kind of annoying.
Does it sound like the Dolby Theater in Vegas? No.
Does it sound better than $2000 TV's speakers? Likely - because (at the very least) the bass module and a center channel; at most upfiring speakers.

Switching to BT and Spotify - when in "music" mode, upfiring speakers also work, so if you don't like the 'immersive' sound, you'll have to switch to "TV" mode which lowers the volume of the upfiring speakers but I feel like there's still some "immersive" feel. Bass seems to be reasonable for what it is. I hear some low frequency typing this from the office - there's the master bath between me and the master br.

Comparing to a BOSE Solo 2 ($89 refurb), I feel like the BOSE is more crisp - and does well for not having a subwoofer. TCL may have more volume and hits lows because of the sub. TCL is new compared to refurb BOSE.

If you have a TV without external speakers, buy this.

If you already have an older 2.1 (from 5yrs ago or older), maybe still buy this for the center channel and if you might like the "immersive" feel (that I find annoying likely because of the fakeness of sound bouncing around).

Better than the 2.0 I had.. which frees that speaker up to move to a TV which has been using the TV speakers. One question.. how does one verify the wireless subwoofer is connected?
And to be clear, while some TCL/Roku speakers connect wirelessly to the TV, this one does not. HDMI or optical.
