You got lucky! I would get the m3 for $100 less too. Chances are if you are pushing to M3 base to the max, I don't think a base M4 is going to push you much further.

This MacBook keeps dropping and dropping more in price. What does everyone think is the price floor or is $799 as good as it will get? Can't imagine how cheap it will be for Prime Day this summer or Black Friday in the Fall.....

Yeah, I hear ya it's just a 256gb machine so it screams "budget" -- might as well make it as budget as possible. Overall, I"m happy to have a NEW macbook that cost just a little more than a mid-tier iPad. But these M4 deals are helping to push the prices down of the older gens so we all benefit.

Can I try out the macbook see I like it or not over my M1 and then return it if I don't?

I don't seem like unless you really need extra memory, storage space or more cores... the entry level air is the one to get for most.
