Haha. you have no idea obviously. Nintendo did their Direct without having prices on the video because they anticipated tariffs to affect their stuff. The console is made in Vietnam but even that country was going to get a % raise in tariffs. it was even said only their accessories would be affected at launch and they would eat the extra cost add to the console since it's minimal (some parts of it is still made in China). Nintendo has stated they can still end up being forced to raise the price post launch. Those Amiibos going from $15.99 to $29.99 wasn't jacked up so high just because of profits.

Tariffs are an additional cost imposed by the importing country, based on the country of export. While the decision to pass the cost onto the customer or cover it through margin is on the company, it would be disingenuous to explain things away as simple. This is launch price, MSRP sets the norm customers will expect, and tariffs are fluctuating up and down.

On the product itself, I'm not shocked by the price. It's cheaper than any official pro controller options (Elite or Edge). Though personally I'd probably get a Vader or Ultimate2.

Save yourself the waste of money and just buy a 3rd party controller thats two time cheaper and you dont have to worry about that annoying a$$ joycon drift. Better yet, stick with the Switch 1 if you have one. Dont sellout to Nintendo for such an overpriced and modest upgrade.

Accessories went up $5 bub, and never came back down after the tariff reduction/delay

Best option would be 8BitDo Ultimate 2C for Switch which has Hall Effect joysticks to protect against stick drift and costs $30. Currently a pink one is $18 on Amazon.

I do want to note that Nintendo unofficially has a lifetime warranty protecting against joycon drift. Anybody that got stick drift has been able to send it to Nintendo to get fixed for free.

Thanks OP and those who suggested a PM through BBY. Got it at BBY with the $10 reward coupon I received 5 emails about this weekend and expires in 3 days. I wouldn't have used it on anything else, so this is a win.

I'll let Target deliver the one I paid full price for (-5%) and then just return in-store. Unfortunately, Target decided to wait until today to ship the S2, so that's kind of a bummer.

Nintendo Tax. They did the same with the previous Pro Controller. Price is astronomical. Even when some stores put them on "clearance" they were still >$40.

I agree with others that 8bitdo has some great offerings, at much more competitive price-points, but I always like to have one OEM controller with the system and I don't like to use the Joy-Cons (at least that was the case on the S1).
