Thanks OP. I was tempted the last time a Sodastream deal came up, but they're only rated for carbonating water.
Drinkmate can carbonate 'anything' (without voiding the warranty), so I figured I'd wait for a deal on one... and here it is.

thank you, didn't think this alert will ever be triggered but here we are! This thing can carbonate orange juice, and I've been told carbonated freshly made OJ is super good. Now I only need to find my old notes on how to mod paintball gun canister and where to buy those super large CO2 tanks!

I just got one on a similar deal from BBB and it's awesome. So easy to use and can carbonate practically anything. Great deal!

Will the older blue canisters that worked with sodastream work with these?

I imagine the catch for this that most people don't think about is that the co2 tanks are expensive, just like Sodastream. Anyone have links to compatible adapters for using this with bigger co2 tanks? Also, how much are you guys paying for your co2 refills of your other co2 tanks? Seems like it's more expensive for me in the midwest than most people claim online

you can either refill the canisters with dry ice or you can use an adapter to use a bigger tank to charge the smaller tanks. i do the dry ice and it's pretty cost effective if you have 5 bottles over time.

Sodastream can carbonate anything as well, but with both you will need to use a slightly different process. Anytime there is more than just water in the drink, the CO2 will want to nucleate on a color/flavor/sweetener particle immediately. The way I do is to carbonate like normal, but then wait 5-10 minutes before releasing the pressure SLOWLY. This gives the CO2 a chance to be absorbed better into the liquid. and not fizz out right away. I like my drinks extra carbonated, so I have to do those steps 3-4 times for each drink. The more stuff you have in the drink, the more anal you have to be about giving it extra time and releasing slowly. Dark soda flavors like cola and root beer are some of the harder ones, but something like OJ with pulp is super hard. If you have soda syrup, it is best to add after carbonation, but with the process above it can also be done before. I stopped using the 16oz CO2 bottles a long time ago. With a $50-100 adapter you can use standard size CO2 canisters. I picked up a 20lb for around $50 and then each refill is around $20-25 after that. So, after initial expense, I pay around $1 for 16oz of CO2, where as you could spend around $300 for the same amount of the small ones. Plus, that tank lasts me about a year, so I do not have to deal with running out every week.

I learned to make ginger bug and use the natural yeast to make most drinks into naturally fermented sodas. I don't need artificially carbonated sodas when I can turn regular juices into sodas. plenty of resources on reddit and youtube on gingerbeer, ginger bug.

i bought the same looking unit under the Soda Sense brand years ago. I believe it was made by DrinkMate at the time. I think it went for $30. i've been using the blue soda stream canisters since then.

This is the one I use with my omnifizz: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGS6PDCY

I agree with pretty much everything that @ten80 said regarding pricing on tanks. I'm in the Great Lakes region. I also agree with everything they said about the effectiveness and process of carbonating non-water...except I only wait about 2-3 minutes because I'm impatient

I just wanted to add a couple of things about the process of getting a tank...the SodaStream reddit (r/SodaStream) is a really great resource to learn about modding the machines. Pretty much everything they tell you about modding SodaStreams is EXACTLY the same as modding Omnifizz, except the proprietary connector in the back of the machine is different. Find the closest airgas store to where you live, go there, and ask for a tank. You'll probably have to do some "set up an account" shit with them. It's not difficult, but it takes a little bit of time to fill out the paperwork. Then you rent a tank and you're good to go. The only part I disagree with @ten80 on is the frequency of fills. To be fair, I only have a 10# tank, but I refill it every 10-12 weeks or so. It's entirely possible that either my connector leaks a little bit, or I just drink way more water than they do, or whatever...just wanted to make you aware that you might have more than one fill-up/year like they suggested.

Dry ice > blender > refill canister = free refill. Been doing this with sodastream canisters for over a decade. Can get dry ice for free from medical centers as they throw it out.
