Now that Nintendo Switch 2 is out, it seems retailers are actively trying to get rid of any Nintendo Switch consoles that they still have in stock.
I was at a local Staples [staples.com] when I saw that they were offering $50 off Nintendo Switch consoles.
Obviously, this is VERY YMMV. So you'd have to go into the store to check on inventory and pricing.
This might be worthwhile if you have a lot of Staples Reward Points saved up.
The ad banner fine print says the $50 off ends 6/7 (photo #1). But each individual price tag states the prices are valid until 6/21 and 7/5, respectively (photo #2), so I would assume these sale prices will remain until they sell them (I highly doubt they'll need to do another round of clearance reduced pricing to sell them all away, but you're welcome to try and wait).
  • $299.99 for Nintendo Switch OLED
  • $269.99 for Nintendo Switch
  • $149.99 for Nintendo Switch Lite
This Staples store didn't have any of the games on sale, but that doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility.
Happy Hunting!

you can get used OLED models for $200 used right now. That's the way to go, everything else is a waste. these would be worth it for $80-$100 price
Sure, if you say so. New, used, what's the difference after all?

Just look at the 3DS right now. You could get them for a $100 or less for a while at the end. 2DS was $50. Now look at that market. Switch 1 will circle back.
I feel like this will definitely happen with the lite because it's cute and can be carried around like an accessory. The ps vita is getting this treatment right now

Biggest issue with S1 and SLite is the Eshop is soooo slow and laggy. It isnt fun to navigate and that is when you feel your system is 8 years old.
That was the biggest disappointment and it only got worse as the years passed by...

Outdated tech. Released 8 years ago. Replaced by a new console.
While that's true there is also a massive price difference that is going to be a factor for some. Unless or until there is a Switch 2 Lite there is no current gen budget option. And if these were to vanish for some reason but there is still no budget solution, then I could foresee a lot of folks lamenting that and having a forlorn sentiment about days gone by.

highly unlikely, look at their older handheld consoles now, DS gameboys etc, only ones worth any real money are the specialty skinned ones
Check EBay. Handheld value is way up for anything in good condition. 3DS especially, but the others to a lesser extent.. You want a good 3Ds XL and it's well over $200 and special editions are way more.

It's about as strong as a 2020 mid range gaming PC. Think RTX 2080 - plenty to play games from the last decade and current gen.

Facebook Marketplace is flooded with these for less than $100... I've seen them for as low as $50. Lots even come with cases, accesories and games...

Get one, mod it or get it modded, and you won't even care about a switch 2 for a while.

Thus is why I used the word "might", new/sealed consoles generally go up in price over time, but you're right in saying that a basic Switch probably won't see the same price increase as a special edition.

agree with some other comments here, you can find OLED units for not much more than this. I found a like new regular Switch OLED with dock for $180. if you're set an a Lite though you can find them all day for under $150

To be fair, the Switch was already outdated tech when it was released in 2017. People aren't buying Nintendo consoles because they're the peak of technological advancements. They're buying them because they have fun games.

Recommend putting the money towards a Switch 2 since the new console supports most Switch 1 games.

Only reason to get this is if you always wanted a Switch 1 & want to collect it. Usually these are the lowest prices for new units before the retro hike.
