No, its filtered water.
Filtered water still has minerals and maybe trace contamination in it, which may deposits in an iron, steamer, cpap or other devices over time. I believe distilled water is usually evaporated and then recaptured as condensation. When the water evaporates into vapor, it leaves all of the minerals and anything else behind so it's very pure. Distilled is also recommended for mixing baby formula for this reason.

the big question is... is this like the old razor bit.. cheapish container, but they get you wrt the refill/cartridge thing, ie some peoples water is very dirty, so the filter is used up more?, etc

Not really. Imagine, you cna still use this pitcher for your own filtered water or for lemonade etc later on, so you can use the pitcher for other purposes. However if you need filtered water zero is probably best tasting and properly filtered water.

This is awesome for office use. I have a 2-stage filtration setup where I use the regular Brita filters for tap water, and then pour that filtered water into the Zero water pitcher. I definitely notice that my Zero filter would last longer than if filtering tap directly.

Same here. I would never use this thing. I think it would get scummy if not in the fridge, and it's too big for the fridge...
