Thanks everyone for doing testing, and especially thanks for cho9736 their advice. Thanks also Peerless_Warrior for confirming it works with pre-existing accounts.
Instructions:
You must have a Samsung Galaxy Device (I personally tested on a Galaxy S22 Ultra and a Galaxy Note20 Ultra, but users in thread were also successful with devices such as Galaxy A20 and Galaxy Tab S9)
1.) If you already have the Perplexity app installed on your device via the Google Play store, uninstall it.
2.) Go to the Galaxy Store (red-ish icon with a white tote)
3.) Search for or find the Perplexity app. There may be a banner (see first screenshot), however you don't need to click the banner to redeem this offer.
4.) Install the Perplexity app, open the app.
5.) Either login into your current free Perplexity account or create a new Perplexity account.
6.) The account should automatically be upgraded to Perplexity Pro. You'll know it's upgraded when:
6a.) You'll see the words Perplexity Pro on top of the perplexity app homepage (see Screenshot 2)
6b.) You'll receive an email from [email protected] with the title "You've been upgraded to Perplexity Pro" (see Screenshot 3).
7.) If you aren't upgraded to Perplexity Pro after following the instructions above, in the Perplexity app, hit the top left icon to access Settings, then click Logout. Close the app. Then proceed to open the app again, and log back in. This should trigger the app upgrading you to Perplexity Pro.
Additionally, for me, it doesn't show that it auto-bills or auto-renews once the free 1 year is over (You have to go on the Desktop site to check subscription status). See Screenshot 4.

How do you use it?
edit: I guess the app is "work in progress". in browser it shows upgrade option. deleted account and app. hope to find a use for the gemini pro before it expires next year
