Really wanted to like it, but I ended up putting it down after about 30% of the way through. I just couldn't bring myself to care about the plot or the characters. Maybe it was more impactful when it was released, but "scary circus" is a bit hackneyed at this point.

This was one of the first books I read in school that I really loved (also A Wrinkle in Time).

One of the (if not THE) OG supernatural coming of age story. 1000% an inspiration for Stephen King.

Looks like this may be an unpopular opinion but I share the exact same experience with this one. I tried to read this after thoroughly enjoying Stephen King's "Fairy Tale" where it was referenced multiple times. Unfortunately I just couldn't finish it.
