Meh, I guess if you need charcoal it's better than full retail, but 16% off is hardly a slick deal on charcoal.

Will be 75% off soon enough. Stock up then.

Picked up 80lbs. Thanks! Going to use it to smoke brisket and other types of meats. I usually get Kingsford pro from Costco but this deal ended up being cheaper than that with my military discount.

What's the normal price on this? I don't think they're 30 right?

I understand that there are some Jealous Devil faithful out there, but this really isn't that great of a deal, especially since there's typically at least one charcoal deal a month and it's usually worth stocking up on. For example the B&B deal last month from Walmart. That one came out to $0.57/lb

I agree- they don't tend to burn all the way through. I used them in my Green Egg and started to lose heat with half the briquets still unburned. From the looks of it they produce too much ash and it smothers the heat. Might be good for open-air charcoal grills though.

oh forget it, definitely wrong fuel source for a picky green egg.

I get B&B lump from Academy Sports in store all year round for $16 for 20lbs. Many of the other stores around here sell this for $20+. So, I feel like I'm getting a deal without trying much.

I tried Jealous Devil lump once (not the briquets in this deal). I thought it was OK. It does burn hotter but that's not the most important thing when smoking in my BGE. It is harder to light, but not terrible. It does have good sized chunks. I guess I felt like it was good "heat" lump but not really smoking and cooking oak, like B&B. I wouldn't call it bad lump, and it does seem to be quality stuff and it's not full of trash like Royal Oak, but I was happy to be done with it and back to my B&B. $15 shipped free is probably good enough for you to try it though.

I realized after I originally posted this that I didn't notice the JD was briquets. I never use briquets in my BGE...always lump. sorry for the confusion.

To each their own. Just to add my 2 cents I love these. They burn hot and burn very long. And they don't add any weird taste to the food (looking at you, Kingsford).

Essentially these give me a lot of the benefits of lump without the size and shape irregularity of lump. That's nice for heat consistency when doing longer cooks. At least for me.
