I'm no pro on this, but it's my understanding that Best Buy open boxes are treated as a new PC purchase.
I would probably test then register with the manufacture to be sure they have the right info.
This is a little faster than the other HP I deal I just ordered for pickup. Not in stock for me anyways and the other price is too good to pass up. I think I was lucky it was still in stock unless there are some issue scaring people away.. https://www.bestbuy.com/product/d...ition=good

I know with Asus laptops, open box are not treated as new and will tell you to deal with best buy for warranty, who will tell you to deal with asus. I am not sure about hp though.

This has not been my experience. I've purchased open box laptops from best buy and went to register the manufacturer warranty to find it has like two months left.

Exactly right for Lenovo. When you register with Lenovo, their website has a button that is exclusively for fixing the warranty date. All they ask is the Best buy invoice and they change the warranty date to start on that date.

I have yet to use warranty within 1 year. How many times have you actually had to RMA something? Laptops are usually solid.
In my experience working at a Fortune 500 company deploying roughly 1000 laptops a year, the failure rate is about the same for Dell, HP, and Lenovo - a whopping 1%, give or take. This was over the course of my roughly 8 years in the department. A big sample size compared to home users, but small beans for Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
Only exception to the rule was when they tried out the Microsoft Surface - those things failed like crazy.
