Tipping is not required but it's expected. So it's probably best to look at this as a "tip offset" rather than a pure discount. As far as prices go, Costco via Instacart, with a Costco membership linked to your instacart, has prices about13% higher than in store. It's about double that if you do not have a Costco membership but still use instacart. Costco Same Day also inflates pricing but I don't recall by how much.
I actually see same day prices higher than what Instacart shows for Costco. Makes zero sense but the pricing on these delivery services are generally all over the place making zero sense.

Wow this deal is amazing.. or, you can just use Uber Eats and buy the UE gift cards at Costco for 25% discount.. UE prices are generally just a bit lower than Instacart.. some folks were using both services and both gift cards ✌️😀

After months of complaining in Pentagon City, "what is the executive difference?" while doing the line to pay and "why do you want me to use self checkout when I'm paying an executive membership", and last but not least, "why can't I feel the executive difference?" Im glad that Costco created now an exclusive benefit. Kudos.

I seem to recall before the merger years ago, Price Club had separate early hours for business members.

Finally. Add curbside pickup and mobile device checkout and welcome to the 21st century.
I wouldn't count on curbside pickup, considering they want you to have to wander through the store looking for the product you came to buy. This is also why they move things around the store, so you're exposed to more products you can impulse buy as you try to find wherever they moved the item to.

I get it. 50% less crowd is better than 100%.
The reason I chose Sams Club over Costco - no crowds at all + curbside pick up is unbeatable.

Around half of Costco members are Executive level so I don't expect a dramatic difference especially since many Exec members will intentionally go during that hour to theoretically avoid crowds which could have the opposite effect.

What percentage of those 50% do you realistically imagine will go at that time?

It's only a one hour window, so I just can't see all the executive members flooding in to take advantage of this special period.

Do both sameday and costco via instacart require tipping? And do they both have higher costs baked in to the pricing to cover platform fees?
It is more expensive and you should tip. With that being said you can buy instacart gift cards from costco $80 for $100 and use them. So if you do that really you are just paying tip for someone to shop for you, drive to your house and unload your stuff. Its been amazing for my elderly dad who gets water delivered.

Costco recently stopped selling Instacart gift cards.

I love the self-checkout. I don't typically use it if I have a bunch of items. Costco is right next to work, so I will swing by often on my lunch or after work for an item or three. Self-checkout is tremendously quicker as longer as there is nobody there who is experiencing their first day on earth.

if you have some Chase credit cards, Personal or Business, you can do better with the instacart credits.
Inks, Southwest, IHG, Marriott, etc. $10 off $10 or $20 off $20, once or twice per month. +3 Months of Plus membership for each card you have
(not on Freedoms and Sapphire Preferred unfortunately)
don't want to give links here, but i'm sure you'll find it by searching travel forums

You can also combine discounted gift cards that Costco sells with whatever promo code Instacart / Costco may have at the time.

Most Costco in the SF bay area already open at 9am and I think most shopping early are exec so I don't see it as much of a change

unless you don't like or can't shop then. the same-day is worthless to me
