I see a lot of gaming desktop/laptop deals posted.

And I get it, I'm a cheap person. I'm more than happy with my self-built rig that cost less than $800.

But $2200 just seems so far past the point of diminishing returns.

What's your specs

Like the other person said, where are you getting a 7900 xtx for under $800. I have almost the same build with an 7800x3d and (2) 2 TB ssd's and it cost me about 3k self-built in 2023. This is cheaper and comes pre-built. The price is good, my only thing keeping me back if i needed a new machine would be i dont really like dealling with liquid cooling.

He/she never said anything of the sort, he simply said he is happy with his budget build and you ran with it.

I love AMD cards as of late, but at this price point I would want an Nvidia card. The 4080 super is around the cost of this card and does RT much better, for me that would be a must have option for any card around this price point. If all you care about is raw ass fps, this aint too bad.

in 2025, I rather get a pre-built hands down. Let someone else deal with the compatibility issues for you with a pre-built. The days of building your own are long gone. If you have the $$ and time to fix and spend time trying to work on compatibility issues... then building your own is the way to go as a "hobby".

Weird comment. Compatibility issues aren't too much of a thing anymore. It's so straight forward that it would be hard to mess up. For example, if you buy an an AM5 mobo, get an AM5 chip and cooler lol. It might take 10 minutes to figure out the ram compatible with it at most. If you don't know your PSU size, there are calculators for it. It's not hard lol. Takes like 2-3 hours to put one together on a first build.

Compatibility issues? What are you trying to say? I'm a former hobbies who hadn't built a PC in 15 years. I didn't have an issue. That said I took prefer prebuilts as the savings in many scenarios aren't worth all the effort to shop around.

According to my AI, RX 7900 came out ahead of RTX 5080 (which lagged behind RTX 4090). Can anyone chime in?

You ain't getting a good gaming with $800. A top of the line motherboard costs $600 plus. The CPU $300-600 and the GPU $300-3000 plus you need 32GB minimum of ram and 2-4 TB of memory to download games. The power supply 850W-1000.

I'm unaware of any compatability challenges that exist today that didn't 15 years ago.

Not a good deal for gaming. Should be looking at an X3D CPU and a 5070 ti at this price.
