One thing none of these weight loss books every seem to mention is that if you want to lose weight you are going to have to feel hungry for part of the day. If you exercise you burn calories which is great but your body will then get hungrier faster because you are burning calories. Higher fiber foods can help reduce some of that hunger feeling without actually adding more calories. Eating a healthy balanced diet, doing some exercise, and accepting that you are going to be a little hungry for parts of the day is how you lose weight. If you are really overweight then you should plan to be on a one or two year weight loss journey feeling a little hungry throughout the day. The worse thing you can do is go too fast. The excess and loose skin will become unbearable. This sounds unbelievable but in my experience nearly everyone can lose weight much faster than they can gain it. If you are 250 lbs you could drop 30 lbs in a couple months much easier than you could gain 30 more lbs in 2 months. Good luck everyone!

Jason Fung is not a hack, he is correct. The problem is no one likes his advice because giving up or reducing carbs significantly is not fun, and is also very difficult in our modern American food culture.

Insulin is a fat storing hormone. The more sugar you put into your system, the more insulin you will produce to get that sugar out of your blood stream, because your blood sugar can only climb so high. The more insulin you produce, the more fat you accumulate, because insulin's job is to get that sugar out of your blood and into cells.
Reduce sugar intake and you'll reduce insulin. Reduce sugar intake enough and consistently, and you'll actually start losing weight because your insulin level will come down AND you will not be as hungry.

I have done 16:8 fasting and low-carb, and it works, painlessly. Because after a few days of adjusting, your body starts using the fat already on your body for caloric needs and you aren't hungry. It is easy to lose weight if you aren't hungry all the time!

The only thing that makes Jason Fung's methods difficult is that America is drowning in sugar everywhere and in everything. What helped me a lot was to keep all the junk food out of the house, and especially no eating after dinner. Snacking in the evening is not necessary, it's just something we do.

He's no hack! He has changed many people lives w/o surgery. Not that you have to agree with everything, but he is a good man who is helping others get back into healthy living by understanding INSULIN function and how to get your levels low so you can lose weight/burn fat much faster and more efficiently!

Pretty good summary ! And the reason it's beneficial is it gives us a chance to regain sensitivity to insulin. I've been doing 16:8 fasting for a couple months now and it's helped me lose a few pounds; however I'm not really calorie restricting. Overall I feel better and don't get as hungry throughout the day; and I can focus my energy in the morning on other things Smilie

As someone who weighs the same 20+ years after high school, it's very simple

Stop eating trash, reduce your carbs, and workout. Stop sitting around watching tv all day.

Like how. I have his diabetic code. A1C from 9 to 5.8 in less than 6 months, morning fasting from 260 to under 110. Ya he hacked the hell out of my diabetes

Same. I haven't read the book but I try to do 16/8 fasting and cut out carbs/sugar from my diet. Took a few weeks for my body to get used to the change but I've lost weight and haven't struggled like I did with previous diets. I have a pretty stressful job and have to care for a sick parent that needs attention 24/7 so I don't have time to work out right now. I've failed most diets I have tried in the past, such as calorie counting with working out, after around 6 months. I've been able to maintain my new diet for around a year and a half so far.

The secret to conquering all dysfunctions is to decide.

The corollary is that the secret to achieving all objectives is to decide.
