Got notice immediately via email for transaction that also shows 500 points pending for this purchase.
Got the gift card a few minutes later. Claimed and saved to Walmart account.
Also to note, the offer showed up in my notifications in the app, titled as "Start your summer with $5 cash back".

This is the way. Either let the slide show banner at the top of the page run until it hits, or manually scroll to get to offer. Repped for your very helpful tip!
Note: Also verified that this is not available on every account. But the OP does not give this clue I needed to spot the offer on the account it was in.
