I think it's because they sell their own brand of pods that only fit these machines. They make bigger cups of coffee compared to the nespresso pods that it also takes so people are likely to keep buying them. And include a little coupon for 25% off your first coffee order or something like that with your new machine. So I think they are just trying to get people on the system.

I just picked this up after using the pixie for a few years. Overall it's a good machine. It holds more water than the pixie which is nice for people who drink a lot of espresso like me. It feels study and despite being all plastic it doesn't feel cheap. I will say I think my pixie makes a better tasting cup.
