I think your point is super valid, but in the end, it's all about $ and for some this might be awesome for short time backup, vs spend 4-5x on honda

1) Non-ethanol fuel. ALWAYS.
2) When finished running, cut off the fuel with the fuel switch, and let it die via fuel starvation. This will evacuate all of the fuel in the carb, leaving it clean, dry and ready for the next run.
You could also empty the thank of any remaining fuel, but with non-ethanol fuel, not so important.
I run all of my farm/landscape/garden/generator related devices on non-ethanol fuel. Have done so for the last five years or so, and it's made a dramatic difference in reliability. I can store a piece of equipment like this, with fuel in it, and it will start immediately a year later, after proper prime/choke.
After hurricane season ended last year, I followed the user manual's "long-term storage" procedures. If I do use it this hurricane season, I expect it to start after a few pulls. If I remember, I'll come back to this thread and let you know.
You're right, though, in that less chance of issues with propane or natgas.
If I used it for work daily, I'd definitely use the Honda for known reliability etc.
