Deal Details
The Daiwa Saltist 30H Star Drag Reel, released in 2019, is currently slated for a planned redesign in 2025, which is why some stores have begun discounting this reel. This specific reel model has a built-in Centrifugal Braking System for casting control and longer casts. This system helps prevent backlashes by regulating the spool speed during casting. This is an essential thing, especially if you plan on doing long-distance casting for surf fishing, and at the current price point, you are getting a premium reel for an unbeatable price. No coupons are necessary to get the discount!

Specs;
- Maximum drag pressure of 17 (for 30h model)
- Built from machined aluminum with an anodized finish for greater corrosion resistance
- 4 CRBB ball bearings and a roller bearing
- Extremely smooth freespool
- 6.4:1 gear ratio

Line Capacity;
MONO 14/490, 20/300
BRAID 30/660, 40/450
- Centrifugal Breaking System for control and longer casts

Nice deal OP! I'm on the fence. It has been years since I've gone out on a cattle boat, overnighter or longer here in SoCal - I've lost a good amount of interest in doing so, especially with the increased costs of everything involved... I've also learned it's also a huge time sink going out on any boat (you spend hours prepping ahead of time then you wake up extra early and come back extra late and still have to clean all your gear off. Don't forget about any post-processing of fish that you might have caught... this is why guys out of SD pay extra for fish processors to vacuum seal and freeze all their stuff, but it's a pretty penny. The sport is really a labor of love and it gets expensive. I have two late elementary kids now so I just don't have the time or energy to do all these things that I used to do. On the other hand, I'm a total gear junkie and it's hard to resist a good deal.

For anyone looking/wondering though, these are great reels for calico bass, yellowtail, bonito and halibut fishing here in SoCal. If you are interested in tuna though, I'd recommend stepping up to the heavier duty stuff (Okuma Makairas, Shimano Talicas, etc).

The clamp on these Saltist units lacks sufficient grip and tends to either come loose or unscrew over time.

Maybe add some blue threadlock? Otherwise, you could use durans, cork puppies or tiburon clamps instead. I know some of the older saltists also had weird screws for their clamps that were "bent"and super awkward to attach securely.

I havent fished these enough to run into such issues 🤣
