Saving trolls time. Yes 256gb sucks. Easily solvable with external drive or internal drive replacement kit. Stop bothering everyone and ignore these threads. There is no better performing mini-sized desktop at this price that comes close to the Minis overall performance, noise, ports, and power use

Holy Moly, you pay an extra $220 for an extra 256GB of storage.

The base Mac mini at 16/256 is a spectacular deal at $470. Just get external storage. Anybody who needs more than 16GB of RAM knows they need more. If you don't know how much RAM you need, it's likely that 16GB is plenty.

Didn't see you posted this before I ended up saying almost the same thing. But you nailed it.

The usual people poo-pooing this machine are unable to ever show a PC that is more capable at this price.

Same price on Amazon. I linked a Discover Card and got an additional $20 off.
Isn't $20 off less than the 5% Amazon card gives? ($469 * .05 = $23.46)

I would say NO. For mobile and laptop, you carry it around so there is a probabilty of breaking them. Mac mini just sits on the table.
The power supply on my M1 died, but I got a replacement on eBay for around thirty bucks. Other than the power supply, there's really nothing else that can fail.

Do you think prices will go up in the future because of the TACO tariff?

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but Amazon has the same price as B&H for this and the 512GB version.
https://a.co/d/9hnPkgw - 256
https://a.co/d/4zcs7qH - 512

For me, the 256 would be delivered next weekend, while the 512 would arrive on Saturday

Wish they'd apply this discount to the model with 10G ethernet. I'm readying my hardware to upgrade to 10gig ethernet; building an NAS where I can pop in a pcie card for the faster speed but need my Mac to connect faster, too. Otherwise I'm not convinced it's worth the upgrade from my M1 mini. For the 16GB RAM, maybe.

Its called buying advice. Nobody in the market for this needs more than 16GB of RAM. If they need more than that, they should be looking into a different model Same thing as getting a minivan and wanting sports car speeds.

Show me a more capable PC at this price, I challenge you.

I actually do want >16GB for local ML and LLM models. Yeah, the Studio's memory speed/bandwidth is what you really need to do anything serious like that (or Windows w/Nvidia), but for hobbyist use the Mini is a great value *and* 24GB RAM would make a pretty big difference.

I have a MacBook pro m1 16gb ram. I'm a graphic designer / Web Designer. Using Illustrator/Figma/photoshop

Should I buy this as an upgrade?

I run my mac in a 4k monitor and use it like a desktop. I rarely see it slow down or act slugging in tasks. But is this worth buying to have a more future proofed device? M4 and 16gb seems really legit.

Then pay for the extra RAM. Why should the product have a higher base price because of the minority who want to run LLMs on it?

Again, show me a PC at this price point that works for your requested needs. Still waiting.

Heck even with the extra $200 Apple charges to go from 16 to 24 GB (I agree this is an absurd upcharge), you'd still have trouble finding a PC that is equally as capable at that price.

The M1 is still very capable and future proofing is mostly a myth with the exception of OS upgrades. The M4 will be supported a few years longer than the M1 will be.

I love my M4 Mac mini but I don't think you'd really see any improvement in your day-to-day work with that upgrade.

For the hobbyist, i'd disagree. Even as a heavy user, my work m1 macbook pro still flies with 16gb of ram. I've thrown a lot at this and nothing has made me think I needed more RAM. Would I like more? Sure, why not. The M4 Pro version of what I have now has 24gb RAM base...fine, that's great.

But even though i'm up for an upgrade at work, I don't think i'm going to worry about it because I still have no reason to believe my current machine can't handle my tasks...and i'm not usually one to shy away from an upgrade. The introduction of the M chips has changed how I view my future upgrades.
