I've been looking for a good wide angle monitor and when I saw this deal, I got a little excited. But when I started reading the reviews, I'm not so sure now. I'm working on a MacBook Pro M4 16 inch max and some of the reviews on their site really make me question whether this is worth it or not. Does anyone own this monitor and can you give me an idea whether it's worth it thinking about or not?

I've been using mine for about two years. Overall, it's been great — but I've run into two issues:
  1. The monitor takes about 30 seconds to wake up. I've searched online and tried adjusting various settings, but haven't been able to fix it.
  2. It causes eye strain after a few hours of use.
For context, I used 27" iMacs (2015 and 2020 models) for about eight years, and switched to the Studio Display around two years ago. I've also used several HP Z-series 4K 27" monitors — never had any issues with eye strain.
PS the whole experience comes from an M3 MacBook Pro.

I feel 34" would be too small for 5k2k. Nice if your eyes can deal with it, though.

The quality of the display is pretty good and I've used it across multiple Mac laptops. A 16" Intel, an M1, M2 and M4 Air. The M1 had an issue where it wouldn't let me use the right resolution in clamshell mode but the others have been fine.

As the poster above said - it's real slow to wake up and doesn't integrate with macOS at all, volume keys, brightness, etc …

It's also pretty cheaply made and doesn't feel like a $1500 display. $799 feels a lot more reasonable given the quality.

I have a 38" 5k2k at home and use a 34" 5k2k ultrawide at work. At 34" 5k2k makes everything a bit too small. I would try to find a 3440x1600 at 34" if you're set on that size.
