rant; i personally hate all these sales on items with proprietary batteries and chargers. i know it's consumer friendly, but all it ends up doing is creating a lot more e-waste and i have zero faith in noname batteries from china which tend to work for months or a few years, then not hold a charge anymore most likely because they were not lithium in the first place. products should be made to battery standards we can provide and charge separately. and all this software in a switch is just an excuse to make you register or visit their website, thus a marketing trap. now get off my lawn 🤪

I volunteer search and rescue. I have a few of these HD10 (14500 small battery), the HD15 (18650 medium battery) and HD20 (21700 huge battery). This HD10 is the one I leave on my helmet. The fine control of brightness and the quality of the light (high CRI, nice soft floody beam) is so much better. I don't need the headlamp to be very bright, I just need to see where I'm walking and a map. I carry a bigger handheld flashlight for searching. So this lasts a few hours and I carry spare batteries just in case.

For me it's great. I'm already familiar with Anduril, but I have given many of these as gifts to normal people. Press and hold to ramp brightness is intuitive. You won't accidentally activate strobe unlike many lights with a "simple" UI.

If pressing 7 times to turn off the aux RGB sounds like a nightmare, skip it.

They don't make it so clear in the Amazon listing, but this light uses a removable 14500 lithium battery. It's standard size (size of a AA) and it's been around a while. There is a usb c charger built into the light.

Most flashlights with these 1000+ lumen claims have run times in minutes. Can't find it on the Amazon page, even in the Q&A. I'd rather have several hours of battery life on lower lumens than minutes at 1200, and those that live up to claims will state that.

You may have strong feelings and be ready to rant but your conclusions are all 100% wrong.
I am going to create list of what you have wrong or factually incorrect and I may be mistaken but I do think it is every single point you try to make.
  1. The light does not have proprietary batteries
  2. The light does not have proprietary charging system
  3. The light is not charged by proprietary cable(It is charged by way of standard USB-C cable.
  4. It has a standard 14500 battery
  5. The battery Is really lithium (BTW cheap lower performing lithium batteries are lithium they just are not made to high standards and hold the power that better cells do)
  6. Sofirn/Wurkkos batteries are on par and of the quality of the big brands such as Samsung or Sanyo
  7. The batteries can last years and years.
  8. Sofirn/Wurkkos is not a noname brand
  9. You do not have to visit any website to use the flashlight(instructions come with it)
  10. Amazon or Wurkkos are not laying traps for you or trying to track you some way.

That is really amazing and I really think you win the internet today. One short paragraph crammed full with ten points that are all utter nonsense, complete misinformation and wrong. Absolutely everything claimed or stated 100% wrong or off base. Talk about e-waste.

The only positive I can find is that I did learn today is to not pay attention to most people that claim to care about the environment.

I bought this and returned it. The UI is terrible. Click & Hold 1 to 7 time for different mode. Who's the genius designed the UI for this? I blinded myself many times trying to get to the mode I wanted.

It has been available at this price after coupons at Amazon for at least a few months. It is still a great price in my opinion. You would spend almost as much to get a good 14500 battery, a charger, and a headband.

Yes and no.

Yes, instructions come with the flashlight.

But no, the instructions are unreadable. My guess is that they are printed in a font size "4". Using a magnifying glass is useless, because of ink bleedthrough. So, downloading clean instructions from a website is the easiest solution.

I would use the step mode but the spacing of the lighting levels is not to my liking, so I live with the default ramping mode. At least the HD10 retains its memory of last mode used, so it's not like the UI is unusable. It's just "meh" (underwhelming) for my particular use.

My point still stands but you are correct, very small font. I usually watch a video or two and download like you do in case I forget.

I'm going to throw this out as we are talking about instructions. I have tried to get in to the habit of immediately downloading manuals for anything I buy and for things in my house already such as appliances, furnace, hot water heater etc. I add pages to the pdf manuals with receipts or any other paperwork that came with it like warranty cards, parts lists or diagrams and something with the serial number on it.

I used to just keep that all in a computer folders but even that can get tedious to find. I highly recommend to use Calibre, the ebook manager, and that works great for organzingthat stuff. Have a database just for manuals separate from my ebooks. Assign some tags such as kitchen, bath, auto, tools etc. and you can have a manual in seconds. Really helps when something goes down or breaks and with household emergencies when I can immediately find what I need. Can even add notes to the pdfs about previous service or tricks you you learned about taking care and maintaining anything.

Agreed, watching YouTube videos is easier for most people unfamiliar with the ins-and-outs of flashlight interfaces. This is especially true when manufacturers don't properly vet their instruction material (they are sometimes guilty of misinformation/failure to update their instructions).

China to English translation can also cause some confusion.

My problem is that I get up to speed on the interface and then may not use it for awhile and when i do I'm back to fumbling. Having the PDFs of the manuals accessible for your phone can help that. I do like the extra features sometimes but complicated UIs can be a pian and I tend to switch everything to simple mode now.
