Highly recommend these units (they come in different sizes and ive used a couple including this one). Super reliable, quiet for what they are, well made and flexible options to install.Military should net you an additional 10% off.

How much of a pain was it to install? I'm fairly handy but this seems like it could turn into more than I bargained for.

Depends if you run standalone vs plumbing into existing hvac system

How energy efficient is this compared to a regular dehumidifier?

Honestly I feel like either option can have its own difficulties, though I suppose having it as a standalone might be a tad easier.

The E070 draws about ~550W while running. Previously I had a standard nothing special wheeled dehumidifier that drew ~800W while running. That unit was also pretty "stupid", so it just ran constantly whereas the E070 will cycle on/off to stay near your targeted RH.

I'm not sure that drawing less power means it's more efficient, although cycling on/off to stay on target definitely does make it more efficient.

It seems like the premium for this dehumidifier may be its small size? If you can fit a regular dehumidifier, you should go with a regular one right? It doesn't seem like it works any better than other dehumidifiers.
