I was recently in the market for a 512gb SD card. This card was 32.99 a week ago, but recently went up $3. I bought it over the Amazon listed here because claimed read and writes were faster.

Covid and tariffs stopped that progression.

So bummed Samsung stopped supporting expandable memory in Galaxy line, I have one of these in my S20 because I like to have most of my music library on board - good news is Android 13 will be supported until 2030 - yes a phone can last 11 years!

For the uninformed like me, what makes it incompatible? And is it a good option for switch 1?

The Switch 2 needs a different type of protocol, basically the same as SSDs, it's PCIe based and much faster. Should be fine for the Switch 1.

Nintendo stated that it requires MicroSD Express cards cards. For speed related reasons.

This is not good for constant video recording- it will wear out in less than a year. You want absolute reliability for your dash cam. Imagine getting into a wreck only to find out that your SD card is fried.

Get an "endurance" card from SanDisk or Samsung.

This is definitely the better card and a good deal, but if my googling calculations are correct, the Switch and Switch OLED only support UHS-1 and therefore cannot utilize the full speed of this UHS-2 card. But for futureproofing reasons, it's a good call to get the better card for slightly more money if the SD ever finds itself somewhere other than the Switch.
