FAQ's:
- No, you cannot use Staples GC's to purchase these.
- No, these do not count towards your spend requirements for a premier membership.
- No, these do not earn you any Staples rewards.
- No, you cannot use coupons/ rewards to purchase these GC's.
- Yes, you can split payment between multiple cards (if your cashier permits it) YMMV
- The limit of 9 may or may not be enforced depending on your store/ cashier. YMMV
- Why is this a deal? Some members have CC's that earn 5% CB at office supply stores (INK and Amex Simply Cash). Others need to meet minimum CC spend.
- What if my store doesn't accept payment with a CC? Your store likely has had issues with fraud and it is managers discretion on what payment they will accept.
- Other chase cards may have special offers for Staples ($ limited). Check your chase account under chase offers.

I'm confused by this. People normally pay $8 to buy a $200 gift card? And the deal here is that you don't pay $8? When I buy an Amazon gift card it's just whatever the value of the card is so that's why I'm confused at the business model here

Details state you can use a credit card and get cash back buying these VISA GCs. They aren't store gift cards like Amazon but act more like disposable debit cards accepted anywhere that takes VISA. Also a good way to meet the sign up bonus requirements if you open a credit card.

Also people use these gift cards to do manufacturerd spending. They purchase these cards to maximize credit card rewards.

Gift cards are a scam unless you can buy it significantly discounted.
Almost 25 billion dollars in gift cards go unused annually

That has absolutely nothing to do with this.

There's nothing to be confused about. You're lacking thank knowledge of prepaid VISA gift cards that always have a fee to activate them. Amazon gift cards are store gift cards which don't have activation fee. VISA gift cards can work just about anywhere. Amazon gift cards can only work on Amazon.com. This deal is really rare. Would be nice if it works online with some cash back site

Is it only on the $200 gift cards? Planning to use these to purchase subscriptions that I don't want to auto renew

I would not use the word "rare" to describe such deals. staples had such "deal" in 3 of the past 4 weeks (2x visa and 1x mastercard gift cards). While people are somewhat used to visa card fees, the fact that that people are paying cash for something that works less well than cash (liquidity) with technically little to none value-added (a different form of money instead of merchandise) is quite insane. of course i understand that people use these to fulfill the required spending to get reward points or cash back on new credit cards.

From Staples, yes. Also keep in mind that a lot of online subscription Services don't accept gift cards for that very reason. Much better chance with MCGC vs VGC.

Hopefully nobody is buying gift cards with cash. Especially those paying fees.

I was using "cash" loosely to refer to "money" or "credit" that people have in their possession.

As someone already mentioned, these are Visa GCs so can be used just about anywhere rather than just one store. Where they are really useful though is if you have young kids/teens and you don't want to give them their own debit/credit card. Give them one of these for making purchases when they aren't with you. The only downside to this offer for me is that it's not for a custom amount of money and $200 is a lot to give kids.

Those who are confused will then ask what is "manufactured spending"? ROFL~

If you do not know what you are buying, don't buy. It is that simple. Period.
