For those concerned about the heat issue (described more in detail here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/...esign_mod/), there are ways to 3D print a stand to include a fan. For example: https://www.printables.com/model/...-g9-cooler

Or this one: https://www.printables.com/model/...-g9-modkit

He wants to watch YouTube without ads, you need a browser running in Windows/Linux to easily do that. How can you do that with a Google TV dongle?
Maybe you should try reading.

You should probably give this a try https://smarttubeapp.github.io/ instead.
And if you bothered to read you can see the 1st feature listed is No Ads

So you are telling him to buy a Google dongle and rely on an app in github that could be abandoned at anytime, over using a PC which can use dozens of browsers and dozens of ad blockers? That's real smart.

I don't mind sharing as long as others don't mind. Any PSU would work with a jumper, they're cheap or you can diy, my PSU is just a spare 500w I had lying around. I just figured things out as I went along so I'm not expert. Honestly now I would probably get a Beelink ME mini for $209 from their site since it has better cooling and 6 nvme slots.
Make sure you have a common DC ground, otherwise a potential exists for the DC voltage to drift between the different components.

Reading really isn't your strong suit is it cause if you had even read his original comment which I doubt you did now but, here I bolded it for you and made it red too:

Hey guys I'm trying to get a little PC to hook up to my TV in the living room so I can watch media like youtube without the ads. But I don't want to spend much. Currently I'm using a 4k google TV dongle. I figured I could get a really cheap mini PC and hook that up to it. Anyone got any recommendations?

So the Onn TV box has all the same apps that google TV has and can do 4k?Really the only reason I'm doing it is to be able to use a browser to watch youtube so I can block the ads.
The Onn box runs Google TV too, and it's 4k. Yes, you can install SmartTube to block ads and sponsored nonsense in YT videos. We use the Onn here to watch tons of YT and TV/Movies on Kodi. Much faster and easier than fumbling with bluray disks.

I know amongst your peers you believe you're the smartest person in the room, but sadly that's probably not the case.
Let's break down what the OP said and the advice YOU gave.

You advised AGAINST using a PC and to stick with the Google Dongle and use some GitHub app that could vanish at anytime.

I wouldn't suggest a Windows PC for a Media Center. The 4k Google TV Dongle would be worlds better. Windows HDR is just hot garbage. You should probably give this a try https://smarttubeapp.github.io/ instead.
He never mentioned ANYTHING about HDR, so really that matters to you not the OP, his main concern is ads. He has far better options using a small PC to watch YouTube without ads then trying to finagle some GitHub app on a Google TV dongle. Instead of trying to be a smart ass, you yourself should brush up on reading comprehension.

I bought one for my wife for a kitchen computer, then bought another one for a storage unit. Both are great so far. I have 6 tb storage in one. I dont think it runs hot at all. Happy with the purchase.

So your solution is to buy $185 dollar PC to use Youtube on a TV with no remote and inferior UX instead of a free App for a dongle he already owns. Just admit you failed to read and move on. I am done here.

just set mine up on proxmox - received it yesterday, idles at 50-55, under 100% cpu usage the highest i've seen is 72. runs prefect for my needs - it is in my garage which fluctuates from 70-80 degrees in summer.
