I don't have this particular projector, but I have a similar LED one. Here is what I've learned.

1) The resolution on all of these cheap projectors is closer to 720p. Good enough for a movie night, but not for viewing any sort of documents.

2) It is only usable in almost complete darkness, so plan accordingly, especially if you plan to use it outdoors.

3) Keystone adjustment is a REALLY useful feature in any projector if you are not mounting it perfectly level. That's what allows you to correct the vertical screen angles, and get that nice rectangular picture if your projector is placed low or high.

4) All these cheap projectors have abysmal speakers, so expect to use them with a sound bar or a speaker of some sort for good sound. It makes a huge difference for your movie watching experience.

5) My projector doesn't have Bluetooth, but it seems like it could be a useful feature, since you could pair a projector with a Bluetooth speaker and have more flexibility in where to place the speaker. Just keep in mind that Bluetooth connection can introduce some lag, and cause video and audio to be a bit out of the sink. Make sure you use a streaming device that can compensate for this lag if necessary.

looks like ewaste. Projectors are usually an all-or-nothing type of thing. You absolutely get what you pay for.

Its not worth cheaping out when it comes to projectors.

"not trying to sound pompous"....said the person coming to a $40 projector thread to talk down to multiple people about an item he never considered buying in the first place.

Frankly it sounds like you and these other people have different use cases and expectations. And FWIW they seem to understand exactly what $50 buys if they have bought similar and have been pleased with the performance. Not everyone buys a Huffy expecting to drive at highway speeds with cruise control and A/C, if you did, that is your error, not theirs.

My personal experience with $40 projectors: They are great for backyard movie nights, entertaining kids, connecting to retro handhelds, basic presentations to small groups, using as an impromptu monitor, etc. And if they break during transport or get rained on because your kids forget it outside, so what, you buy another one for $40. But yes, if you are expecting IMAX at home in your $50,000 home theater room, you may be disappointed with the performance. No need to mansplain that to anyone else though, we understood that from the get-go

A viable comparison can be made without resorting to extremes or hyperbole. Also, "Mansplain"? What … and why even?
You really don't need to spend that much to get decent performance. What I was saying is to save just a bit more and get something from a notable vendor (I'm talking *entry-level* stuff), and not grandiose examples as you have made mention. Now that's a deal! But given that foldable projector screens can be a bit unwieldy and can suffer from extreme wrinkles …it still might be a pain and feels like an upsell here.
When the person is comparing a $500 item to a $40 item, extremes have already been introduced. 'Just spend 12.5x the money' deserves hyperbole.

And yes, "mansplain." Surprised no one buttoned up their statement with 'lil darling' and demand for a sammich Wink

And again, why are you here if you have no interest in the item? Oh wait, don't tell me....you are only here out of the goodness of your heart to help people make informed decisions by telling them they have no idea what they want, what they need, and what they have clearly stated they've been satisfied with in the past is wrong ***according to you***. Nothing more condescending than telling someone their personal opinion is invalid because it doesn't match yours.

Question is, do you want mayo or mustard?

I got one of these smaller ones off amazon for like $40 bucks, I set it up to project on our white ceiling for watching tv and movies in bed; and it works well without taking up any space or mounting on the wall. The sound is really quiet and barely gets above the fan - though it's enough to hear without waking my neighbors at night. I don't think this one can angle that way though on a bed frame.

Seems to be the same projector but in a different shell. Seems like a steal for $40 if youre looking for a cheap projector.

Buy and use whatever you can afford/are comfortable with.

FWIW, I started off with a cheap $50 RCA projector that was 100% manual and eventually upgraded to a $600 smart projector with auto keystone and focus, is significantly lighter and operates on USB-C instead of a proprietary wall-outlet power brick. I can't picture any universe where I would go back to using my $50 projector, it was just too much work/hassle to set up and use effectively.

I agree with the notion that buying a cheap thing and having a bad user experience can lead to hating all makes/models of that thing and I agree that a cheap projector like this is most likely future e-waste.

But then the question is: Of what caliber projectors have you actually used? If your frame of reference is sub-$150 units (which are all likely toy-level quality) then of course your needs could be met quite simply and easily. Try a decent unit in the $500+ range and you will no longer have patience for these units that are just quick fly-by-night cashgrabs that don't care about quality whatsoever and will plainly lie and over-inflate specs to just laughable ends. I'm not trying to sound pompous, but these vendors will rob you with their plasticky fake junk. Save your money and get something from a noteworthy brand that will last.

There are zero reasons to be taking this so personally.

This also comes with a 100" Screen (title corrected)
tip, you can attach the screen using magnetic hooks to your garage door (assuming metal door). ALSO be careful with the grease, if you grease your door.

I'm not taking it personally, heck I am not even one of the people you attempted to corner. Just pointing out you showing up to tell a bunch of people their opinions are invalid, while talking down to everyone involved, is less than helpful. At best it was condescending.

Do you hang out at the Honda dealership to tell everyone on the lot not to buy a $40K car, but they should buy a $500K car instead? (same exact ratio BTW) When they say they have been happy with Honda's in the past, you then tell them they do not know what they even want? LOL....what a ridiculous type of behavior that would be. But in virtual form is so much better, eh? (Can't wait for the further nitpicking of analogies Wink)

I'm not sure who hurt you, but it absolutely wasn't (them or a $40 projector)

*Side note: such a childish thing to even say, but let's not even get into that....

Feel free to have the last word, clearly you need it.

A Honda can ultimately serve the same purpose as a $500k luxury car, transportation, so that metaphor doesn't really apply here.

I agree with the overall message of "Don't waste money on something cheap that is barely going to do what it's advertising it can do and instead invest your money in a solid purchase." I loved my $50 projector when I owned 0 projectors and had no frame of reference. As soon as I upgraded to a new projector, my old one essentially became a $50 dust collector because I would never go back to that crappy thing ever again.

Is a cheap projector better than nothing? Yes. Is it inherently a good investment because of that? No.

tl;dr Don't be cheap and waste money on e-waste

I've never considered that before, where do you get magnets that are strong enough to hold up a screen?

I have extra 100 lb hooks I bought of zon per my order history it maybe these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0...title&th=1 . I only use 6 so with the extra, I also use them to hang grill accessories on my grill and lights on my siding. I may even be using them to hold my hand made house number sign I made on my house (I know it is magnetic, but not sure what kind) I just added magnets until it stopped sliding down then added 2 more for good measure. My wife hangs stuff on siding (just be sure to add a bottom magnet so it doesn't move in the wind)

Thank you so much! Idk how I've never thought of these in general for projects. I have some weak ones I use for cable management and stuff but these are a game changer! I've been trying to plan how to hang a projector screen on a pool enclosure for pool/movie night for a little while now and thee might be the solution
