I don't have this particular projector, but I have a similar LED one. Here is what I've learned.

1) The resolution on all of these cheap projectors is closer to 720p. Good enough for a movie night, but not for viewing any sort of documents.

2) It is only usable in almost complete darkness, so plan accordingly, especially if you plan to use it outdoors.

3) Keystone adjustment is a REALLY useful feature in any projector if you are not mounting it perfectly level. That's what allows you to correct the vertical screen angles, and get that nice rectangular picture if your projector is placed low or high.

4) All these cheap projectors have abysmal speakers, so expect to use them with a sound bar or a speaker of some sort for good sound. It makes a huge difference for your movie watching experience.

5) My projector doesn't have Bluetooth, but it seems like it could be a useful feature, since you could pair a projector with a Bluetooth speaker and have more flexibility in where to place the speaker. Just keep in mind that Bluetooth connection can introduce some lag, and cause video and audio to be a bit out of the sink. Make sure you use a streaming device that can compensate for this lag if necessary.

looks like ewaste. Projectors are usually an all-or-nothing type of thing. You absolutely get what you pay for.

Its not worth cheaping out when it comes to projectors.

"not trying to sound pompous"....said the person coming to a $40 projector thread to talk down to multiple people about an item he never considered buying in the first place.

Frankly it sounds like you and these other people have different use cases and expectations. And FWIW they seem to understand exactly what $50 buys if they have bought similar and have been pleased with the performance. Not everyone buys a Huffy expecting to drive at highway speeds with cruise control and A/C, if you did, that is your error, not theirs.

My personal experience with $40 projectors: They are great for backyard movie nights, entertaining kids, connecting to retro handhelds, basic presentations to small groups, using as an impromptu monitor, etc. And if they break during transport or get rained on because your kids forget it outside, so what, you buy another one for $40. But yes, if you are expecting IMAX at home in your $50,000 home theater room, you may be disappointed with the performance. No need to mansplain that to anyone else though, we understood that from the get-go

A Honda can ultimately serve the same purpose as a $500k luxury car, transportation, so that metaphor doesn't really apply here.I agree with the overall message of "Don't waste money on something cheap that is barely going to do what it's advertising it can do and instead invest your money in a solid purchase." I loved my $50 projector when I owned 0 projectors and had no frame of reference. As soon as I upgraded to a new projector, my old one essentially became a $50 dust collector because I would never go back to that crappy thing ever again. Is a cheap projector better than nothing? Yes. Is it inherently a good investment because of that? No.tl;dr Don't be cheap and waste money on e-waste
I bet no one at the 500K "luxury car" dealership would agree with that, funny how that works. Also, for many users, (backyard movie night, retro gaming exporting, small presentations, etc) you don't need a $500 projector as both units will "serve the same purpose" for their needs, may not align with yours though. And yes, my analogy still applies and flawlessly.

Honestly, if all I want to do is project a Disney movie from an iPhone to a white sheet in the backyard so a group of 6 year olds can be entertained for a few hours...is spending $500 on a much better projector really a "good investment" where those kids would be just as content with a $40 unit in the same scenario? I could "invest" that remaining $460 into something else as opposed to spending it here so you can feel better about my purchases. IMHO wasting $460 on nothing more than letting you sleep better seems like a poor investment of my money Wink

TLDR don't let other people tell you what YOU need because they are conflating THEIR use case, with YOURS. That would be like me telling someone they needed to buy a F450, not that Honda Civic, because I needed to pull a 12,000 trailer while they only want to go to and from work. That F450 (or "luxury car") might not be a "good investment" for everyone....especially for those people hanging out at the Honda dealership Wink

I was going to tell you once again why you're wrong but at this point you're just arguing to argue with yourself and look like a clown online. Enjoy your bed sheet movie night 😂
Arguing with myself? No, I'm arguing with projected use cases. Use cases we keep telling you and Slimeyface that do not apply to us. Care to tell me what flavor of ice cream is my favorite as well? What flavor should I "iNvEsT" in? Amazing you need me to spend an extra $460 for something I do not want or need, just so you can cope. Stange, but you do you.

Always cute when people start name calling out of desperation. "Clown" type stuff Wink

P.S. We will enjoy our movie night with the family, thanks! I hope you enjoy your time trolling randos in electronics forums about products you never intended buy. I am sure that is just as fulfilling.

But then the question is: Of what caliber projectors have you actually used? If your frame of reference is sub-$150 units (which are all likely toy-level quality) then of course your needs could be met quite simply and easily. Try a decent unit in the $500+ range and you will no longer have patience for these units that are just quick fly-by-night cashgrabs that don't care about quality whatsoever and will plainly lie and over-inflate specs to just laughable ends. I'm not trying to sound pompous, but these vendors will rob you with their plasticky fake junk. Save your money and get something from a noteworthy brand that will last.
I have a $30 projector in the bedroom with a Google TV dongle connected and it's perfect to project into the bare wall. i don't care about the picture quality when I'm laying in bed and want something to watch before bed. if I want PQ, I'll go watch on the OLEDif I were to get one to replace the OLED, of course I would like into short throw laser protectors.

I've been using a $50 projector for my kids for almost a year so we didn't have to wall mount a TV. Works just fine. I'm not spending $500 so my kids can watch Bluey lol.

As someone who has used projectors from $500-$20,000 range I will tell you if you are looking for something dirt cheap just to get an image on a screen or garage door this will work just fine for that. You will need almost complete darkness for it to look really good or else your colors will be really washed out.

This has one of the pre reqs thats a must, which is MINIMUM 1080P resolution, a lot of these have 480/720 which makes the picture look pretty bad so always stay away from those two.

Yes this is china cheap manufactured junk, but it does work, and if your purposes are simple for the price you will probably enjoy it as some have mentioned on here. The chips for 1080P resolution have become dirt cheap so these are becoming extremely common now compared to the older 480/720 versions which again worked, but had really bad picture quality in general.

Depends on how dark the room is, but text should be legible enough to read, might be a little fuzzy, but the 1080p helps with that.

These all have a place I suppose, but my experience is this is only useable in darkest of rooms and expect to add some sort of streaming device. I get it - no one wants to pay more than couple bucks for a projector - but this is a POS Smilie

This also comes with a 100" Screen (title corrected)
I'm curious how they'll package this screen so it doesn't get wrinkles? I have a 110" screen and that came in a thick, cardboard tube that was 10' long and 4" wide and had to be delivered in a Fedex truck. It'll be interesting to see what material is used for this screen.
