Mount Sinai sent me an email about poor air quality. Like CDC, the hospital chain recommends N95 respirators. Unlike CDC, they recommend KN95s as well. They agree that surgical masks are useless against particulate pollution. there's nothing magical about those, btw. Just as COVID does its damage by burrowing into the deepest reaches of the lungs (and beyond), so does PM2.5.

I saw people holding onto subway cars with napkins and Trumpists complaining about subway car seats. As if those things ever kill people.

Due to covid, it is now normal to see people with masks
It was also pretty common before in Asian countries like at the airport.

not medical grade so should be okay for most job sites.. some of us are more vulnerable so 3M Aura is the only thing I wear in crowded poorly vented places.

People who would wear such masks:
People with compromised immune system, such as cancer patients on chemotherapy, would wear masks.
People who have a cold and still need to run errands, but want to reduce the spread of their illness to others.
People who have high risk factors of hospitalization if they get Covid, such as those over 65 who are not vaccinated, other chronic illness such as asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, etc.
People who don't know why people would wear such masks:
Unaware, or worse, ignorant, people.
Be aware.

There was a comment that has apparently been removed talking about trapped CO2.

Check the volume of your lungs. Check the volume of air inside a mask. Compare them.

Also, I know how high I can push my heart rate, both peak and sustained. Altitude makes a big difference (my normal hiking realms vary from below sea level to above 11,000'), masks make no difference until I'm at high elevation. And I recently did a cardiac stress test--wearing an N95, performance right where I expected it to be.

Meanwhile, long Covid has overtaken asthma in children. And that's something you can never take off.

These are the type that wrapped around your head instead of wrap over your ears. I like this type. The two people I talked to said they didn't like this type, but perhaps that was before they were familiar with them.
