The European Food Safety Authority says you should not eat more than 0.5 grams of erythritol per KILOGRAMS of body weight, per day. So if you were 200 pounds you convert that to kilograms and that is approx 91 kilograms. Then you multiply that by .05 and get 45grams per day.

The food label says one serving has 15 grams of erythritol, So at 200 pounds you could have three servings or 6 donuts per day. Remember to convert you pounds to kilograms or you'll have too much.

At amounts higher than .05 grams per kilogram of bodyweight, is when you start to feel the gastrointestinal side effects.

Protein bars/snacks are meant to supplement a healthy diet, not fully replace meals. Therefore, nobody should really be having more than 1-3 of these alternative treats daily.

That being said, I was happy with the other products I've tried from this brand for the purpose that they serve. I'd still only have this on occasion like normal donuts.

Is that the dosage from the studies finding cardiovascular harm?

ETA: nm I dug around. Looks as if it was 30g. So four donuts, assuming your diet does not include any other erythritol. Hard pass for me.

"RESULTS:

Dietary erythritol (30 g), but not glucose (30 g), lead to a >1000-fold increase in erythritol plasma concentration (6480 [5930–7300] versus 3.75 [3.35–3.87] μmol/L; P<0.0001) and exhibited acute enhancement of stimulus-dependent aggregation responses in all subjects, agonists, and doses examined. Erythritol ingestion also enhanced stimulus-dependent release of the platelet dense granule marker serotonin (P<0.0001 for TRAP6 [thrombin activator peptide 6] and P=0.004 for ADP) and the platelet α-granule marker CXCL4 (C-X-C motif ligand-4; P<0.0001 for TRAP6 and P=0.06 for ADP). In contrast, glucose ingestion triggered no significant increases in stimulus-dependent release of either serotonin or CXCL4.
CONCLUSIONS:

Ingestion of a typical quantity of the non-nutritive sweetener erythritol, but not glucose, enhances platelet reactivity in healthy volunteers, raising concerns that erythritol consumption may enhance thrombosis potential. Combined with recent large-scale clinical observational studies and mechanistic cell-based and animal model studies, the present findings suggest that discussion of whether erythritol should be reevaluated as a food additive with the Generally Recognized as Safe designation is warranted."

Craving a donut, go eat a good one that hits the spot. Then go back to protein shakes and chicken breasts. Never could get into protein enhanced treats, just tricking yourself into believing their health which other than the added protein, they aren't.
100% this. Same with ice cream. Life is too short to eat the horrible-tasting and questionably "healthy" fake desserts.

Just treat yourself to the real thing in a while and eat more veggies and high-protein milk (which is pretty indistinguishable from regular milk tastewise).

I eat products like these for convenience: no cooking, easy 22g of protein.

I do enjoy them, but any consumer purchasing these has to realize a "protein donut" is not replacing a normal donut. It's in its own category. I'll have normal donuts every once in a while, these are for me to supplement additional protein into my diet—not to replace donuts.

See the above. That's not the point IMO.

And probably tastes like the hole it resembles, compared to a fresh donut

Yes, L&L were sued over protein claims and misleading labeling. They claimed 16g protein per cookie but when tested an individual cookie may only have had between 4 and 9 grams of protein. They also allegedly used nitrogen testing to label for protein content, but when you publish a %DV for protein, you have to use the protein's "digestibility score" to determine how much is ACTUALLY usable by the body.

They settled to the tune of $5 million.

I'm glad these exist as an alternative for people, I'm just cautious about believing specific claims without independent 3rd party testing backing it up.

Ohhh so that's why these have been on sale non stop everywhere for years? Interesting

I think their point was you'd have to eat an insane amount of these to even worry about the amount of erythritol, not you "should" eat 6 per day Wink

Who said this was "healthy?" Some of us need to crowbar in protein at every chance with get as eating pounds (more) of beef / tuna / chicken / shakes a day is not feasible or "healthy," not trying to "trick" myself into anything and you should see the mess of.

Perhaps you are conflating your mindset with that of the target market?

Another person who showed up to cram their confusion down other people's throats. You should see the wheel barrel of "veggies" and fruits I eat per day, protein as well. Yet my wife still calls me a "sack of bones." Maybe I just forgot the ice cream Wink

Dang, 430mg of sodium per serving. Who knew that sodium would be an issue in a donut???
