3M is a thicker tape with good adhesion. Also easier scrape back up off the roll when the end slips off the dispenser.
Amazon tape is thinner but significantly tackier of the two. Because it's a thinner tape and so tacky, it will shred when peeling it back off the roll. Safest thing to do is put a tail on the end after applying the tape. Advice I don't always follow but I know I should.
