Lysol toilet bowl cleaner is surprisingly hard to mimic by competitors. Scrubbing bubbles version is one of the worst cleaning products I've ever used - it's as if you just deposited pure water into your bowl. Good to know about this one.

I agree with the Lysol product, my basement toilet had some water stains(mineral i am guessing) right at the water trap for 15 years or more. I tried ajax, bleach, i combined both and added dish soap(dont try that combo at home) let it sit and nothing. Caught the lysol for cheap on amazon the other day and cleaned the bowl and let it sit, to my amazement, the rust looking stain completely disappeared. Good old toilet!! love the way it flushes! Oh and on a stand up shower with a plastic floor, i threw this on and spread it with a brush and left it so nice and white. Must be the Hydrochloric acid that works so well. Finally dont mix it with bleach😁

Dude, oh no you didn't! 😧 Bleach is one of the worst things you can put on rust. Rust is caused by oxidized iron. Since bleach is an oxidizing chemical, you're making the rust stronger, thicker, and harder to clean.

But you are correct about the acid. In fact, home remedies often involve soaking rusted items in vinegar or lemon juice overnight. That's obviously impractical for a toilet bowl although I've seen instructions to shut the water, flush out the bowl and then fill it with vinegar or lemon juice. That may work but it's very expensive and annoyingly slow.

If you do decide to use vinegar or lemon juice, one recommendation is to make a paste to apply in the bowl. People always recommend using baking soda for the paste but that's a huge mistake: the baking soda will neutralize the acetic acid in vinegar, making it useless. That's why sodium bicarbonate is used as an antacid. My solution is much simpler. Just soak toilet paper in vinegar and make it stick to the porcelain.

Another popular remedy that has some science is to soak the toilet in Coca Cola overnight. Coke contains carbonic, citric, and phosphoric acids so it may actually work.

Or just use Lysol like you did! 🤪

That's very disappointing since one of the advertised features is: "Cling Action Bleach." If I decide to buy it, I might add a thickener to it.
