They're just price matching and poaching off of Barnes & Nobles July Criterion sale. Support the last few remaining retailers that actually still sell physical media. Buy from B&N!

So if Amazon is poaching...don't they have to also have and sell the physical medium to price match?

Not if they put they outlast everyone else. They want everyone to be on digital.

Reminder: B&N > Amazon for a number of reasons...the most relevant being that you can find B&N credit for 10-20% off and use that during Criterion sales Smilie

Just got The Wiz Criterion 4k for $27 in credit, which means maybe $22 out of pocket Smilie

I picked up Paper Moon 4K and Happiness 4K that have been on sale the last couple of days for under $20. Then bought Defending Your Life Blu-ray for $20 since I have yet to run across the non-Criterion version in the wild.

The Criterion release blu-ray release has the following:

4K digital restoration of the director's cut, supervised and approved by director Richard Linklater, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack
Audio commentary featuring Linklater
Making "Dazed,"a documentary by Kahane Cooperman
Rare on-set interviews and behind-the-scenes footage
Footage from the ten-year-anni versary celebration
Audition footage and deleted scenes
Trailer
PLUS: Essays by critics Kent Jones and Chuck Klosterman

What's insulting is comparing a standard release of a film vs a boutique label release like Criterion is putting out. Is everyone going to want this? Of course not but its pretty simple, if you don't want these extra features don't purchase the release.
