Meanwhile 2TB of storage for a Switch 2 would be $400 (two 1TB cards) or $280 for Xbox.

How important would you say the cache is if let's say we were using this SSD in an external thunderbolt 3/4 enclosure and it will be used as an external drive for Dropbox?

Most important if you used as the boot drive. External file storage or 2nd drive not as important.

Depends how fast you really need it and how big your transfers are, and how often. After about 341GB (SLC fills) on a continuous transfer with SLC clear, it will slow down to around 450MB/S avg, then you have to wait until the cache is "flushed" in the background during idle states which could be several minutes(of idle). That's actually not bad if you're not constantly writing. You only have to worry about DRAM-less for writing, reading doesn't rely on it, so you won't see throttle like this.

I grabbed one for my long overdue upgrade from Z270 to AM5 platform. I'm still running 2 SATA drives from 2016 and 1 cheap intel 660p nvme from 2018.
This should allow me to remove the SATAs and clean up the associated cabling.
I'll spring for a DRAM drive for the OS, but this will just be storage for games, photos, music, etc.
EDIT:
This site DID NOT CHARGE TAX so I got it for 99.99 compared to Amazon 990 pro at $159.50 after tax. $60 savings is nothing to dismiss. That will nearly pay for my 1TB DRAM SSD for the OS.

M482 uses newer chips that are faster overall.

If your games fit on the OS drive, just get a cheaper QLC drive for media storage. Or spinning disk.

I just got Crucial T500 2TB $124, one of best Gen 4. BTW, games don't benefit from nvme's like video editing. Even an old SSD will be great for games...

How would this drive do as a drive in a Unifi Cloud Fiber for Unifi Protect/camera recordings? Thanks!
