Some people don't live in multiband reception areas and while solar is great, the regular battery is a 10 year so no worries there. I got the 5600 for $40 and didn't think the solar was worth the $60 price jump. Plus Keanu wore the 5600 in Speed so that ups the cool factor. Get the 5600 for $35 and the Calculator watch for $25. $60 for 2 iconic Casios
great price, if you like this though, might as well get the atomic sync(multiband 6) & the tough solar model. It's usually around $100 but trust me it's worth it.

$36 vs $100 is quite a big jump. What makes the tough solar model worth it other than supposedly not having to change out the battery?

Totally agree with this, its the ultimate set it and forget it watch.

As a watch collector I have both, but don't think the multiband is worth the price. The $36 entry g-shock is the one to get for a normal person. It keeps great time (only change it for DST) and will probably change the battery once before the plastic (or me) degrades and falls apart. Solar charged batteries eventually die too (15-20 years). I got 20 years out of my Citizen eco-drive battery but it wasn't lasting more than a couple days towards the end.

I loved this watch as a kid, but I can't love without my smart watch now. Good memories with this watch though.
Can't even "love" without a smart watch? Society is t going to last much longer
Btw, smart watches are garbage, they all look like the wearer has zero taste and they have to be recharged on a regular basis.
While the gshock isn't going to win style awards it is a tool watch and can withstand end of society conditions for the fallout of humanity, which as noted above is apparently happening soon.

I've owned several 5600's, wearing one now, love them. I bought the atomic/solar, wanted to love it, but the dimensions are not the same as the 5600 and I couldnt get used to the fit. My dad wears the solar and loves it, great watch.. just letting you know the solar is slightly different.

The display crystal layer is closer to the surface so easier to see.
