Within the past 6 months, I've purchased a Fire HD 8 (2020) and a Kindle Paperwhite. Both were listed at Grade C. Both of them came in generic type packaging with a charger. They looked and functioned like new. Not a single blemish on the screens or bodies.
Small sample size I know, but I'm satisfied with the conditions.

Not sure if it's just me, but it looks like the Paperwhite (2021) link points to an expired sale page from April. I do see there's a new link:

That just seems wrong charging e-waste on used items.

The person who traded-in that Kindle already paid the e-waste fee for that device when he bought it new.

These are completely unusable, unsecure, and likely dangerous to use (old untested batteries). It should be illegal to sell them.

I use my Fire HD10+ a lot for streaming but with more RAM (4 vs 3 GB) and wireless charging. Always docked on a charger stand so ready to go.

Just wait, coming next year is the new embedded battery fee... not making that up!

No they haven't set the fee rate, that'll be known in October.

Do these Amazon Fire HDs work for Samsung trade ins? The ones that ask for android and give like $400 off?

I bought one of these two years ago and it was totally unuseable. Nothing worked. I sideloaded firefox I was at least able to browse the internet so long as I limited myself to a single tab, but the loading was incredibly slow. I wouldn't attempt to use one of these for any reason.

Typically not. The $400 off is for specific models. For example, their own A9+ tablets (lower end) have minimal trade-in value.

They also paid sales tax, but here you are paying more again on the same product.

Goods aren't taxed in the literal sense. Commerce is.

If a tablet gets sold on eBay 5 times they take a fee every time, because that's how they keep the store open.

The same is true of the American government. It's a service fee to use their platform.

I haven't had much luck with Refurbished Amazon products regardless of the grade after a few months it starts slowing down to dial-up speed.

mine randomly shuts off if you do anything more than read on the kindle app.....

which is fine, i bought it to be a reader. but it powers off and restarts anytime you do anything else more cpu intensive.

Not worth it for the 2018 version of the HD8 IMO. Maybe for the 2020 or newer but 7 years old is a pretty long time for tablets that typically launch with older processors and storage anyways.
Even HD8 2020 version is too old for any normal tasks now. I have this one and only use it for Weather Clock display now because it is too slow to perform anything, including use it to display Ring cameras video.

I made a similar comment on another thread. The extra gig of RAM makes all the difference. My HD 10+ is the one Amazon tablet that's managed to stay functional. Almost exactly 2 years of near daily use and it still works like new.
