Excellent tool. The 'Auto' part is just marketing. You can use this through the aux jack to make a old 'dumb' stereo receiver into a smart one. Quick, easy bluetooth/wifi/smart assistant access to anything that you can plug headphones into.

There's a workaround to prevent Alexa from making these kind of suggestions, including upsell recommendations.....

Wanna stop Alexa from EVER saying "By the way" and offering you a suggestion you absolutely DO NOT CARE ABOUT? Here's how:

Say to any of your devices, "Alexa.... stop By The Way". If she says "Okay, I will snooze my suggestions for now", then you can count on a couple of days of silence and will know that the command works. (The command will not necessarily work on ALL devices. If it doesn't work on the one you tried, try another). Next, we get tricky and get her to shut up forever.

Open the Alexa App and do the following:
1: More > Routines > New (the "+" in the upper corner)
2: Enter Routine Name > give it a name (I use "Shut Up"), tap Next
3: When This Happens> Schedule > At Time
4: Repeat=Every Day, At Time=2am (my preference, choose the time you want), tap Next
5: Add Action > Custom > 'stop by the way' (without quotes), tap Next
6: Choose Device: Pick one of your devices, tap Save

Important.... while this will apply to ALL of your devices, the device you pick in step 6, at the time you select in step 4, will respond when the routine runs by saying, "Okay, I will snooze my suggestions for now". My suggestion is to have this run overnight while you're asleep, but have it run ON a device that won't disturb you when it talks. I use my Garage Flex at 2am, since it's unlikely I'll be sleeping out there then.

By having the routine run daily, it should permanently remove the "By The Way" suggestions from your life, since each request gives you 2-3 days of peace. This will work until Amazon catches on and changes their software.

All I ever wanted Alexa to do was play music. Now I get a spoken word essay on why I should upgrade to their paid tier of music streaming since they've made the included version crap. Basically bricked 3 echo's. I have learned the lesson that devices that require an internet connection for basic use are temporary and don't actually belong or work for me.You'd have to pay me to put this in my car.
The best part is if you had upgraded to the paid tier of music streaming, you would have found out that even after that, you still get a spiel to upgrade to the family plan.

This is the difference between a intelligent person like you posting a great use case vs the high voted useless post by some stupid person. Thanks for posting this.

It's not useless if people pay to get "free surveillance"

nice tracking machine.
good luck with you insurance rates.

That's true for some things (see GM selling driving activity to insurance companies for an example), but not for this. Your cell phone is what you really need to be concerned about for tracking…

It's a great idea, if it wasn't for the fact that it uses your cellphone which can already do everything this item does.

What can this do that an android phone can't do? Is it just the aux connection?

I use it because my car has an aux but no Bluetooth. It connects to aux my phone connects to it, means I don't plug things in when I get in the car. The Alexa part of it works ok, I use voice commands to control my audible audiobook. If my car had Bluetooth this would be a waste but it's cheaper than replacing a built in stereo

I've had the first gen of this in my 2011 Camry for years. The car didn't come with Bluetooth or Apple car play so it made it easy to add Bluetooth to my car. The voice commands to tell it to play music was a nice bonus. I never use it for making calls.

However, I recently replaced it with one of these $100 car touch screen devices that I'm sure will be on sale during prime days. I put a strip of super strong Velcro on the dashboard covering the old digital display and the other strip on the back of the touchscreen so I can slap it up there and take it off if needed. It finally feels like my car is up to date with my wife's 2016 car lol, some day I'll have a modern car again.

Speak for yourself. Tons of people out there that still have dumb cars where this will be awesome.

I have a 2007 and 2013 where this will be awesome. My generic BT adapter in the 2007 died a few months ago, so perfect time to replace with this.

Not a great product, but I'll add it to my cart if it reduces in price another $15.
