I paid:
Dec of 22 $54
July of 23 40.84
Dec of 23 43.99
Nov of 24: 34.83
I think i started finding slick deals over the years. But also I did a quick search and home depot has it right now for $40.91 (not on sale). So not sure if its really $79.99 to start as amazon listed. I think even the winix site is cheaper than that.

If you're willing to roll the dice on a third party version, a 2 pack can be had for $35.65-$5 coupon

Don't know if it was this brand but I purchased some 3rd party ones and they only lasted about 3 months. The filters didn't look super dirty but they gave off this burnt plastic smell. These genuine filters usually last me around the actual 12 months.

Yeah the real McCoy's have been phenomenal for my 2 Winix filters. I decided to give the cheapies a shot and see what happens when it finally comes time to replace my current ones.

How do you know when the filter needs replacing? I did the 5500-2 mod where you place the activated carbon sheet filter in front of the HEPA filter and then you place the AOC carbon filter behind the HEPA filter. I'm hoping that prolonged my HEPA filter life...

Genuine question, why do you keep replacing if they're washable?

The carbon filter is washable, the hepa filter isn't

Ah! Makes sense now.
I read it all as one sentence as there's no punctuation in the title. Thanks.

Thanks to the OP and yourself for posting great finds. I have used both products and for my purpose both do a really good job. I think I will stay with the cheaper 2 pack but either deal is good price.

Don't do it. I did it and the carbon filter barely had any carbon and the filter itself had a chemical smell. They are obviously cheaper for a reason.

I have the 535 and 545 series winix. Does anyone use similar washable carbon filters for those?

The reactivated carbon has a limit on how much it can absorb before they're rendered ineffective.

Might as well chuck the hepa machine. I don't get it? $35 for a year is expensive? Why did you buy the machine in the first place? There are cheaper options with cheaper authentic filters. 3rd party cuts corners and you'll be lucky if it's 50% as efficient.
