Let's assume:
- your solar panel can charge this thing to full every day (200w panels can reasonably do this on many days of the year, but not every day)
- you get one full charge and discharge out of this every day (1 kWh)
- and that electricity costs you 30 cents/kWh.
- You therefore "save" 30 cents/day running this thing on solar
Break even in 1833 days, or 5 years. Guarantee you won't go through the inconvenience of solar charging this and running it to your load to save 30 cents a day.
Hardly "free power", and to the guy thinking you need a ton of electronics for solar - what do you think you're buying with this power station?
Still, this is a great deal for someone needing something like this. The question is, do you actually need it? It'll be just a toy for most people, used maybe 2-3 times a year for camping, or running your electronics when the power goes out. If your power tends to go out for more than 24 hours at a time, perhaps you need this to keep your stuff frozen. Or maybe you need an oversized uninterruptible power supply. I dunno.
I like to carry a PS around that can run everything(1500w+) but small capacity because I can bring a 12v battery if I need the extra capacity which is why the high transfer rate is important.
The Pecron E1000lfp has been my top 1500w+/1000wh highly portable power station because of this but I think this Bluetti 100 V2 is the new king at this price of $379.
This is an introductory price as it will ship end of July and the normal price is $599 I think.
I think Bluetti has a function in the app where to can get the full 20a at 12v. I thin HoboTech got around 230w.
If I can verify that it can do 230w on 12v, I will get one. Was going to get the Pecron E1000 but I hate their support.
I think Bluetti has the edge right now with their introductory price.
Both the Pecron E1000lfp and the Bluetti 100 V2 can be bought for $379 right now.
The Pecron has these advantages.
- $379 TOTAL no taxes on Pecron site. Bluetti will be ~$410.
- Solar port can be charged at 20a. 12v battery will charge the unit ~265w. The 100v2 might allow 20a at 12v. Need confirmation.
- Has expandable port.
- Has DC output at 20 amps.
- Can warm the battery.
The Bluetti has these advantages.
- Battery user capacity. ~930w vs 880w for Pecron
- Smaller in size and weight. 25lbs vs 29lbs. Every lbs helps.
- Better warranty 5 yrs vs 3 yrs.
- Higher charging for AC and Solar.
- Better CS support. I haven't had to use Bluetti but I have used Pecron and Pecron is horrendous. Bluetti can't be worst.
