I bought this based on a deal a few months ago. If you're on a timetable watch out, it took them almost 3 weeks to ship it. I looked up the Amazon record: Purchased May 18. Delivered Jun 7. Is that typical or a fluke? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Depending on who this is for I'd second the upstream rec to just buy the 15G one. I bought this so I could put an old cellphone in my almost-13y/o's hands. I wasn't gonna pay the sort of post-paid rate we pay for us adults so this seemed sensible. Well, I just got a warning that it's closing on the halfway mark on the data. We handed him the phone Monday evening.

Maybe that's mostly just-got-it excitement but it's not economical to do top-ups here and there. Infi's price for 1G more for the month is $7. 3G will cost you $18. If I'd had the 15G deal available when I bought this I'da done it - $10 a month instead of $5 for 3x the data seems a reasonable bet.

I just ordered one of these a couple days ago before it hit this site - I noticed they had like some 40% off code for verizon version, but tmo is way better at my house. Then I saw the tmo version was $60 straight up with prime so I grabbed one. Sometimes their fulfillment takes longer, but what it says on amazon for the delivery timeframe is accurate. I got mine overnight as stated.

The item indicates 60 days but people have reported doing it as late as 6 months later. You do have to provide your order # as part of activation so it COULD be an issue but they seem to be doing the bare minimum on things. Heck I provided my old phone's imei to activate because it would not accept my new phone's imei...put it in new phone after activation and it worked fine.
oh sick - that's good to know. but i guess it's a $60 gamble if you sit on it for a long time since you'll be way out of the return window

Have you got wifi? The phone should be using only wifi when at home (although I added a tasker profile which switches OFF my data to ensure it didn't when I'm connected to my home wifi and turns it back on when wifi disconnects)..I'm sure some of the free alternatives like "automate" could do the same. 5GB suits my purposes and I listen to a bunch of pandora music basically anytime I'm in the car. If he's downloading music or large files he should be doing it on wifi. Perhaps spend a little time explaining to him how to conserve his data if he doesn't want to run out before the month is over.

Explaining ways to defer gratification to a preteen is something I spend a lot of time doing. My uptake rate is somewhat smaller.

Using it as a supplement to me ATT service for coverage and a burner number. And a 15GB/mo. line for my kid. No problems yet.

Verizon year ar 15GB plan is back at $112/year.

I'm on the 6 month for $68 deal right now, and I had no issue setting it up and it's working fine for me. Some drawbacks are very limited options, no international, no hotspot, no visual voicemail. A 5 gig limitation would be the only area where I'd be wary, but if you have an eSIM option, you could always get these features when needed from an additional carrier.
